They all were big time hires not many years ago. They were all going to lead teams to the promised land. $100 million later, here we are, all trying to make the big splash hire. Coaches are laughing all the way to the bank. I think we are barking up the wrong tree. The logic is if we outspend everybody on a big name coach, wins are guaranteed. Lessons have not been learned.

LSU will not give a long term contract to any coach. Also will not get into a bidding war with any school and those who do will regret it. LSU should hire a coach who believes he can win championships at LSU and will be rewarded big time when he does.

Beamer, Freeze & Napier’s contracts were all under $50 mil originally I’m pretty sure.

Other than Kelly, none of those three was a big name coach. And Kelly had by far the most success of the three.
Nick Saban at Alabama, Kirby Smart, Urban Meyer at Ohio State, and Jim Harbaugh were all the biggest name available when they were hired. Dan Lanning was a big name, Mario Cristobal was a big name, Brent Venables was a big name, Lane Kiffin was a big name, and Kalen Deboer was the biggest name available.
