Do bad movies know how bad they are?

I watch a ton of rifftrax/MST3K, and these movies are just...so so awful. Everything about them, the writing, the acting, the stunts, the music.

Like this gem

When people were making these movies were they just delusional? Did they actually think they were making something decent?

I'm not talking about the ones that don't take themselves seriously, but there are some player straight pieces that at are just hot garbage. Are they made just to give people jobs? Credits?

Not according to Steven Segal. That ego won't allow him to realize just how bad an actor he really is.

Not every movie is made to win Oscars. Some films are made for the love of the game or just for a paycheck. Unfortunately, in the motion picture industry, there are below average talents who can't write, act, or direct. Sometimes these people are brought together and create the perfect storm of a bad movie.

A bad movie that’s aware that it is bad is unwatchable garbage

A bad movie that’s aware has no idea how bad it is, those are always the ones that are so bad they’re great.

The best bad movies are made by delusional people. Those are at least interesting.

Oh we love watching and cringing at just how bad they are. The writing, the pacing, the continuity.

There are so many out there. Joe Estevez may be our favorite bad actor.

If you haven't seen "Baby Ghost" or "San Fran psycho" give them a watch. We laugh until we hurt

Just how many cheesy B-movies were made in the 50's that dealt with giant insects bent on destroying the world or men and women growing to 50 ft. tall, all because of radiation fallout from the atomic age.

The acting in most of them was downright laughable and the special effects weren't so special.

Svengoolie is still aired in my area of the world and that show airs some of the above mentioned B-movies almost weekly and they are mostly good for a laugh at just how bad they are.

"Plan 9 from Outer Space"
"Attack of the Killer Tomatoes"
"Killer Klowns"
"The Giant Claw"
"The Beast from 20 Thousand Fathoms"

My wife watches dog shite movies all the time. I’m pretty sure she doesn’t realize it.

It's one thing when it's intentional. When it's sincere it's even better

The worst movie I’ve seen in the last decade was War of the Worlds (2025). if you google or ask AI what the worst movie of the year is there’s a consensus on this one from all sources. Forgot what made me try it out for myself but think it may have been a thread on here.

From sources close to the movie it wasn’t intentionally bad so that makes it a pretty funny watch when you realize they actually tried to make a decent movie. Even still may be Ice Cube’s best role. If you’re a fan of train wrecks this one may be for you

ETA rotten tomatoes score increased from 0% to 4% since I watched it so either someone liked it or is a fan of said train wreck

My best friend growing up and the best man in my wedding is a writer in Hollywood. Also a producer in some reality TV.

He has not read a book from start to finish in his life.

I love him, but he is not good at his craft and still gets hired.
