Offense profile vs Ark

I was at the game yesterday and could not see game unfold like TV viewers. I watched the game replay this evening and damn was it different than last nine games!
MVB is not a messiah QB but he makes the defense defend him. As a result running lanes were open. OL did not look completely lost on running plays. MVB had good pocket presence and ran enough to change the game. We threw the ball over the middle. 3-4 shots downfield yielded 2 penalties. And the biggest thing, 4th Qtr comeback with 92 yd drive
I said early on Sloan was the problem. I
now would add BK and injured/PTSD Nuss to that equation as well.

MVB was definitely nervous to start the game. One thing he needs to improve on is when to run and finishing those runs getting every yard he can before contact. A lot of time he's running out of bounds or going down way before any contact is coming. Obviously hurt us in the Bama game

We have a really good RB in Harlem

LOL. Ark's defensive front was horrible. LSU's O-Line looked like it was All-SEC against Ark's defensive front. It was a mirage. That is why Ark has the worst defense in the SEC and it isn't even close.

I saw an offense that STRUGGLED MIGHTILY to put points on the board against the worst defense in the league even with the benefit of several turnovers.
23 points. Very little changed.

Imagine how bad it would have been if BK and Sloan were still running this offense.
Nobody it is saying it is great but it is a lot better. Different players on field where others did not perform. All we can ask at this point…
How many WR screens did we run yesterday…

You saw what MVB can do in a game. He can tuck it on 3rd and long and run for 35 yards. That drive also won the game for us.
Nuss couldn’t have done that. Also I think MVB looked smoother as the game progressed

Tbf berry could’ve scored another TD

You can't make wholesale changes at this point. The roster is very flawed offensively and the staff is at least squeezing every drop out of what they have. Realizing 8 games in that Harlem Berry needs at least 15 touches is another reason Sloan and Kelly had to go. You aren't fixing the OL this year. Hire a new offensive staff and hopefully hit on 3-4 guys up front in the portal.

The replay definitely told a different story from being in the stadium. MVB isn’t some miracle QB, but the offense at least forced Arkansas to respect more than one thing. The middle of the field being used for the first time in forever was huge

Yes. Dude can flat out play. But we were told by someone on the recruiting board that he was too small.
Harlem was not perfect, but found cut backs and showed acceleration that no other RB at LSU has.

Lester had 4 or 5 guys ranked ahead of him and saw him as a receiver. Berry has shown the ability to hit a hole quick and has good vision. He and Durham give us a solid 1-2 punch.

Sitting there with you live, I basically had the same take.. MVB makes up for some broken plays and that type of QB is the future of this program. You don't need a true run first guy, but someone like him that can make a negative play into a short gain or even break a nice run out of it.
The fact that he put some balls over the middle of the field was a nice touch too.

Why aren't we throwing the ball over the middle more? Fear of interceptions?
It's crazy that we have one of the better receiving groups and we're not using them.

Too many. And several picked up less than 5 yards.

Van Buren's last scramble was an absolute back-breaker to Ark

I expect that to get better as he gets more game reps. I am more concerned with the small details in the pocket. Keeping the left hand on the ball as he climbs or moves out of the pocket. Jitters and knowing where the 1st down is will get better with time naturally. But keeping that hand on the ball has happened a few times in back-to-back games. Really like two hands on the ball when in the pocket to not get a strip sack.

I was at the game myself. My takeaways:
The last scoring/winning drive was 80% trick play. I am glad we got creative, but why did we have to resort to that against the worst defense in the SEC. It worked though, and would Sloan have done it?
On the last TD, MVB had a wide open running lane for a first down and I am screaming RUN! He had the field presence to pull up and hit Sharp with a perfect pass in the corner.
Harlem Berry wears 22 and reminds me of a young Emmit Smith with his running style. Get him a good OL and he will be great.
It was a win, but Arky's ineptness saved us. Turnovers, penalties and a shanked FG attempt won us the game. We did what we had to do to take advantage though
Our absolute lack of production inside the redzone and 3rd and short is pathetic. Goes back to OL and not being able dominate the man across the line from you.
PA guy...stop playing over the band! Get off my lawn....LOL

This is true, but we had to resort to running consecutive trick plays to move the ball at one point. (ark did too).

This is the biggest issue.

Just the RB room in general getting 15 was an anomoly with Soan. But Durham is still legit. 12 for 65 and TD. Berry was 11 for 52. That is the commitment you need to running with RBs. Durham's TD wasn't some blocking sheme win, he had to fight to break free.

He reminds me of Joe Addai. Exceptional first step and balance and great as a receiver.
