We have 2 family members- my brother-in-law and his wife

She is a school teacher who teaches Spanish in Indiana- he works in construction for another brother in law who is a big Trump supporter.

They both hate Trump and are constantly angry about the news and are basically impossible to be around in person if you get into a political discussion…

In fact, I was told by my wife “please do not talk about anything political during our vacation with them’

It upset me a little bit because I’m not the problem and everybody knows they are the ones who get triggered and upset and make everything a disaster

So I took the high road, but I will say that the rest of the family while we’re on vacation we actually do like talking about politics and we do so when the 2 in question are out - and we have text threads and so on, but it’s nice when we’re in person to chat. We live in different states

We all get along, but the two flaming liberals are impossible on politics

I believe they are good people. They just have a different worldview of how they think government should work.

And yeah, they are not Christians, but they do like to argue. “Well, if you guys are Christians blah blah blah, “how could you”. they try to throw the strawman arguments in our face if we disagree with certain values that they have. They don’t know the Bible which is annoying when they try to use it to support their views

Why are you taking vacations with people who are miserable to be around?

Its one thing to see them at family functions and the holidays, where you only have to put up with them for a few hours and can leave early if they become really miserable to be around. But why go on a vacation where you’re spending thousands and using valuable PTO, only to have someone on the trip who has a high probability of ruining everyone else’s fun becauss they’re miserable people?

Can someone please explain how we are misinformed???

This sounds strange, but it's true.

My wife's family doesn't discuss politics anymore because I bring facts and questions. We still hang out. They keep away from politics because they've been proven wrong on many, many occasions. Funny thing, I'd pull non-political sources for data. So rather than engage, they keep the discussion away from politics.

They only watch mainstream and NPR for news, so I know they are entering the conversation with misinformation. Funny thing, they'd rather believe the lies than be shown the truth...sad.
