The plan all along perhaps….

Perhaps the plan was always to fight BK on the contract and end up in court. If he wins, then the state is obligated by the contract to pay, since those are the ONLY 2 parties on the contract. It then becomes a judgement against the state, which can only be paid thru the appropriations process. These have to be proposed by a state legislator. Which legislator is gonna propose this on BK’s behalf?? BK can’t put a lien on state property or garnish state funds. So he essentially gets nothing. Moscona alluded to this process and that is indeed how it works. Look it up. So no TAF or booster funds used. Can hire a mid to lower coach and spend much more on NIL support for him. Coaches all have egos and love money. I think this is a real possibility outcome with the AG office hardening the state/LSU side. BK could realistically end up with nothing.

Good luck hiring the next guy if this is what the state will go through to not pay out a contract.

Sure because coaches hate money and huge NIL budgets and have zero ego right??

Nope.

If that happens I don't think we ever get a big name coach here again. But maybe that's what it will take for these ridiculous contracts to stop.

Not “nothing”. He’s been paid for the last 3.5 years. Nice chunk of change for someone who didn’t achieve the goal he was hired for.
frick that guy.

Correct. And kill the cash cow football program in the process.
That said, I really don't think there was a coherent plan. Nothing about this situation suggests any level of planning or thinking around the corner. Just reactive and unprofessional behavior by people over their heads.

Kelly is going to get paid, and very well. The only thing in flux is will it be $53 mil over 6 years or a smaller sum in fewer installments.
This is both sides trying to strongarm the other. It will eventually even out and adults will prevail.

So the state wants to nuke LSU to win a battle vs BK??
I have to admit, that is some real Louisiana logic right there and sadly it wouldn’t surprise me if you were right.

You sure?? Then how are judgements for money handled by the state if money doesn’t have to be “appropriated” in the budget??

LSU has paid every coach it has fired… why would BK be handled differently?
Something is stalling this negotiation.

Not a problem if the coach you hire knows he won’t need a contract buyout

The big name coach at Ole Miss everyone wants has won exactly what again? Big name days are gone my friend. Welcome to the new era of NIL.

And who exactly are the adults on the LSU/State of Louisiana side of this? Because I sure as frick don’t see any.

BK isn't seeking a money judgment. He's seeking a declaratory judgment. Those are not the same.

And who is gonna pay it? Let’s say the boosters refuse and so does TAF? The state right? So see the original post and let me know how a judgement would be paid is not thru appropriations.

OP’s scenario results in the coach getting no buyout money.

Yes. But the end game is the settlement or full contract correct? If the judge says he was indeed fired with cause cause SW had no authors to do so, then I would assume BK will sure for the full amount no??
Posted on 11/11/25 at 5:05 pm to boosiebadazz
Correct. So more booster/TAF money to spend on new coach and players. A lot more.

This isn’t going to happen
