Let him retain Blake Baker, Corey Raymond, Frank Wilson, and maybe even Kyle Williams. Let him convince the key players to return, while also maintaining the majority of this impressive recruiting class. Add a few key portal transfers, in addition to completing the coaching staff with pivotal hires, and let him cook.

He’s young, offensive minded, and the best recruiter in the country. He also has a national championship on his resume from Ohio State last year.

He would be eager to prove himself, and you wouldn’t have to give him $10 million a year to get him here. We could do a lot worse than him.

Hiring big name assistants worked out ok for Georgia, Oregon, Notre Dame, and Ohio State to name a few. It’s time to hire a younger and hungrier coach who is not worried about a golden parachute. They just want the chance to be great if given the opportunity.

I mean it’s decent but it’s not impressive. I think we’re ranked 12/13th.
But you’re not wrong about keeping what we can.
6th SEC, right in front of Florida.

ETA : On3 recruiting rankings

No way to pay a coordinator 10 mil. Hes never been a HC.if you want him give him 5 mil with incentives to succeed .When NS left he was making 4.5 mil and Skip hired LM for 1.7 mil.you don’t pay all of that to a untested coach.

You clearly misread what I said. I said you WOULDN’T have to pay him $10 million a year to get him here. In other words, you could get him at a reasonable rate without having to break the bank to get him here.

Why not go that route, but with someone who actually has some HC experience (and made the playoffs)?

Hartline joined Ohio State's football team as a graduate assistant in 2017.[16] Already on the coaching staff as a graduate assistant, Hartline was named interim WR coach for Ohio State for the 2018 season after the firing of Zach Smith.[17] The position was made permanent in December 2018.[18] In 2020, Hartline was named to the AFCA "35 Under 35" Leadership Institute which annually recognizes the future leaders in the football coaching profession.[19] In 2020, Hartline was named "National Recruiter of the Year" by 247Sports.[20] On January 9, 2021, Hartline was promoted to passing game coordinator, on top of his title as wide receivers coach.[21] In 2023, he was promoted to offensive coordinator.[22] In 2024, Chip Kelly was named the offensive coordinator and Hartline was relegated to co-offensive coordinator.[23] After winning the national championship that season, Kelly took the same position with the Las Vegas Raiders and Hartline was named Ohio State's offensive coordinator once again in 2025.[24]

Not much experience even as an OC. I’m sure he’s got a bright future but he may need more seasoning before leading a major program.

Hartline is not leaving Ohio state. It’s his alma mater and he will take over when day leaves one day.

it’s not 2003 anymore my guy. If you tried to do that you are nowhere in the ball park of competitive prices

I’m sure he’d entertain a HC job for way more money but would always go when Ohio state calls

So, I've heard Freeman and now Hartline. Guess they'll have two coaches then. If not Hartline, get Marcus from ND. Either would be good hires IMO.

I'd love him to be considered at AU

But I've seen zero indications we're looking at ANY coordinator level guys outside of Durkin an perhaps Schumann(we should)

when?

He has only been an OC/co-OC for three seasons (including this season)...before that, he was WR coach...
