The announcers stated that the ball is marked where the QB starts his slide and his HIPS are going towards the ground. I don't think the refs got the call wrong last night if that is indeed the rule. Am I wrong?

It’s an NFL rule that has no place in the college game

But that is the rule? If so, why are people complaining so much about the call and not the rule?

That’s right it’s where you start to slide it was the right call !

That is correct. The rule was amended bc QBs were beginning to slide, the defense would back off, then the QB would come out of his slide and continue. A fake slide. So now the QB is now ruled down when the slide begins.

The Refs got the call right based on what was said during the broadcast, but I can't ever remember a slide being reviewed. I always thought it was kind of a judgment call for the ref.

It is, they put it in after some jerkoff ACC QB pulled a fake slide a couple years back.

NFL and college don’t always have the same rules. This is one that has no place in college football. There’s zero reason for it.

It’s to protect the QB. If they don’t make it where the slide starts they will get hit to stop momentum. Also, players were fake sliding and then running. I don’t care for the rule but understand the reasoning.

Would KP be ruled down last night at the point where he started the fake slide?

And here’s why it’s wrong to just adopt the NFL rule. In the NFL if you aren’t touched but hit the ground you’re not down and can keep going so making it down when the player begins his attempt makes sense. In college when you touch the ground you’re down so the rule shouldn’t be the same. In college the rule should be when a part of the body that deems you down touches the ground.

That cannot be an NFL rule, because if no one touches you, you can get up and keep running. You are only down when an opposing player "tackles" you.

I just find it sketchy that they were able to see indisputable evidence enough to overturn the call and say that he started to slide exactly 1/2 a yard short of the first down.

Shouldn't be a reviewable play since it's a judgement call as to when the QB begins his slide. I guarantee that there is nothing in the book as detailed and nit picky as the announcers were being.

But it can be an NFL rule because the NFL is no longer actual football. It’s a reality TV show about gambling on what football used to be.

In the NFL player sliding is considered to give themselves up, so does not need to be touched to be down.
