The final 4 teams in the playoff last year were all defensive-led teams. If we had just a C- offensive coaching staff we would've won that game tonight but we can't even get plays in on time and limit pre snap penalties. The rules today make offense easy now. An elite defense will allow you to beat anyone. But one bad matchup or an injured QB can ruin you if youre an offensive team. And defenses figure out every offense after a couple years. I think an elite defense has more staying power

Who was the last C- offensive team to win an NC?

Well obviously you need a better offense than C- to win the NC. I was saying that a C- offense would've won that Bama game tonight. The OC hire will always still be important but I think defense is more important.

The irony is all the downvoters from people who wanted to hire Saban

I wish the Texas Tech DC, Shiel Wood, had more experience. He is a going to be a very good HC one day.

There is no substitute for talent on defense.

a bad coach can make good players look bad but elite players usually make whoever is coaching them look good and there is only so much the best coach can do with subpar players.

Offensives scheme matters more IMO because is can elevate lesser talent more than great defensive coaching can

This is a good point but I don't know that I agree with applying it at LSU where we rarely have a talent deficiency.

Michigan was 14th in team offense in 2023.

McCarthy was 35th in passing and their RB was 18th in rushing.

Thats at least a B-.

You need to just save us all some time and come out and admit you're a Rebel, every single one of you posts are in one way or another attempting to convince us we don't want Kiffin.

3 of the final four had former OCs as their HC (Day, Sark, Franklin).

Good offenses beat good defenses these days, get another offensive head coach. Build a decent defense next to them with a good DC.

Offense is about 15% more valuable than defense

How??? The offense scored single digit points for fricks sake.

The defense played easily well enough to get a win. They’ve constant offensive mistakes and turnovers, and 3 in outs once again offered zero compliment to their efforts throughout most of the game.

The units don’t play in a vacuum.

this is a funny example of how two people can see the same exact thing and interpret it 2 completely different ways. We agree that the defense made that game winnable with just a somewhat competent offense and yet the offense was so bad that it still cost us the game.

You see that as justification for needing to prioritize an offensive HC. I see that as justification that you only need an average offense and to prioritize a defensive HC

I just think it’s more difficult to continuously replace offensive play callers if you’re having sustained success and they keep getting promoted in college when you’re having consistent personnel turnover.

I think it’s opposite in the nfl when you have a long term high level starting qb.

At lsu with our resources to pay a top tier dc I think having a long term high level offensive system would pay dividends as we can usually afford the DC and recruit enough local talent to wreck shop on defense.

I’d take a great defense and a strong running team anyway over the garbage we have now. I’ve said all season that LSU should have installed the I Formation and hand the ball off and run end around. We sure as hell can’t throw the football past the line of scrimmage.

Unfortunately these two things contradict each other.

Defense is dead in college football. While I wouldn’t want someone like Lincoln Riley who virtually neglects the Defense, you MUST get a proven QB/offensive producer/developer imo

You’re gonna win more with a great offense and ok defense, than an ok offense and a great defense in today’s game. I’m not even sure there is such thing as a great defense any more in college ball
