Academy has this on sale for $500. Anyone have experience with it?

LINK

Is this worth it? Or spend an extra $300 for the recteq patio legend?

Any other recommendations?

not that model, but I have the Pit Boss 850 Pro and it's been great the last couple years. I broke one of the grates and they sent me a replacement set at no charge

In for reviews / recommendations. Been thinking about a pellet grill for a month or so. Really not sure where to start as there seems to be endless options.

Recteq is just as Chinese as Pit boss. They are both fine, however.

Didn't realize recteq was made in China. Thought they were American made.

So I guess they are all more or less the same?

I just bailed on pellet grills for good. After a reqteq and pit boss. They never work as good as you expect, always giving problems, errors, dying out, over heating. It’s always something.

Back to the good ole primo oval and lump charcoal.

I think rec teq advertises something like "assembled" in US. I have a camp chef, of similar quality as pit boss etc. I've had a temp probe go out and a few other things over the years, but nothing major after many many cooks. You'll never get the same flavor from a pellet smoker as an offset, but the tradeoff is convenience. In a perfect world I'd have and use both. Set it and forget it brisket is something you cant do on an offset ......

Or a pellet grill. Nothing like waking up to an error code and room temperature raw meat.

Use temp probes and alarms if you're worried. That said, my old camp chef has never let me down once firing/cooking.

I looked at this grill I'm Academy tonight. Several of these on display, and a few other models and different brands.

This particular one seems a bit cheap in terms of quality and fit / finish. Could be that is was a display but I checked a few and all were similar. Just screamed low quality. Oh, and I don't believe it comes with BT/wireless. Rather, it is capable but you need to buy a part, board, or something. That is IF I recall correctly.

Higher priced pit boss seemed to be of better quality

People on here seem to have had a better experience than i have but prior to getting a pellet grill i had one of those small electric smokers that look kinda like a dorm refrigerator and have a little chunk wood smoke box in the bottom vs a pellet feed and i felt like that thing kept food much more moist and got alot more smokey flavor into the food. Just my experience. It was a much dirtier grill after cooking but peformance wise it shat on my pellet smoker. I think it was a charbroil so it wasnt even expensive.

I’ve had my Yoder Ys640 for just over a year and it has been rock solid. I had a recteq for 5 years prior than was mostly a great grill. With Yoder, buy once, cry once

Not sure how this one compares to the Pitboss competition series, but I used that grill for 2 years with no issues. Loved it - it was my first pellet grill.

I'd do it again if I had to, but I upgraded to a Camp Chef.

I've been having a Pitboss for about 4 years. Similar to the one your looking at. It has worked good for me with few issues. You do have to clean it every so often to get the ashes out of the igniter cup (I use an old shopvac) but other than that it works great. Yes there are much better options with more bells and whistles but you will pay more. Also customer service was good for me. I accidentlly broke the temp knob and I explained to them what happened with pics and they sent me a new one free of charge.
