Are some private lands more pressured than public lands?

Last season I saw, 2 deer at my old lease. Two (2), deer.
I saw more in one hunt on public last weekend in one hunt than I saw at a private lease for an entire season.
Want to hear this boards general opinion on this. Has anyone else had this experience?

I mean, it’s all dependent on what track of private vs what track of public.

My camp is more pressured during turkey season than the national forest that borders my private land by a large margin, and I'd also agree that the deer hunting has more pressure too.
That's due to the timber company not burning or spraying, so our suitable turkey habitat is limited and moving on one can be damn near impossible outside of using the woods road because of the thickets.
But the pressure is also due to the explosion in turkey hunting popularity. Twenty years ago there might be 5 of us on any given Saturday. Nowadays there's more people at camp in April than on Christmas break to the point where there's no longer enough room and we're going to have to deal with it in some way.

Yes, especially private land close to town. I worked shift work, so I hunted some part of about half the days in the season. Now I’m retired and I do that or more. So I am the pressure. You don’t want many members like me. lol.

Where I used to hunt in MS had locals that were ruthless. Anything with horns got shot. Very rarely were big rack bucks killed.

The going rate for Louisiana leases is about 1 hunter per 100 acres
All depends on your lease and also if it’s opening day or not on public

I hear ya. Some leases are loaded and you’ll see them every hunt. Also some are so pressured they are always nocturnal

Absolutely. And when baiting is used on private land, the effect of human intrusion on deer behavior is magnified. Deer get trained to be nocturnal very fast.

I thought so. The old lease I was in was the bomb on opener of archery, was normal to have 5+ deer in a good plot. But once the neighbors let the dogs loose and the club members started using rifles come opener of MS gun, you’d be lucky to even see a deer.

I’m here to tell you, human scent in the woods is more impactful to deer than hounds.

When I was in clubs I did best hunting the middle of the day.

Sorry for the late response but yes I can agree.

Some private lands are more pressured than some public lands.
Piney wood Weyerhaeuser leases between Livingston and Hammond are without a doubt more pressured than Maurepas WMA
There's a lot of private property where deer are spot lighted and shot at year round.
Gun weekend at Yancey looks like rivalry high school football game.

I have never hunted it but I always see deer on the high "ridges" across the bayou when I drive US 61 near st james boat club.
I know that there are some old swamp donkey warriors that are out there but getting in a position to even see one requires alot of luck.
As for the piney woods leases in LP...yes..they are very pressured.
