This distance use to feel great with a 52 degree. Lately I’m chunking the ball and leaving it well short. Also doing it for slightly longer shots with pitching wedge.
Has the ball be creeping up too much from practice with longer irons??

I have the same issue. I'd rather hit a 3 wood to have a 125 yard full PW, than hit a driver and have a 75-100 yard carry with a higher lofted wedge.

Honestly, if I have 100 yards and a clear path, I'd rather hit a low 3/4 PW and run it up onto the green.

When I try to put the ball back in my stance, I feel like I thin it too often and when I try to concentrate on keeping my head down, hitting down on the ball, forward shaft lean, it gets chunky.

Here for the tips, too!

If you're trying to flight your wedges try having the ball just forward of center.

Hard to tell without watching you, but solid technique is so important from this distance because it’s more of a finesse shot. Three big things for me are weight distribution 65-35 on lead foot, hands ahead of the ball at address (this doesn’t mean to dig with leading edge), and keep the triangle formed by shoulders and hands intact throughout the move (stay connected).

My favorite thing in golf. 54* back in stance and use a punch type swing.

I used to have more issues in that range, I have better gap coverage 48-60 now and most of those problems have gone away.

Launch monitor was big for me in that regard. Became much easier to control yardage with those clubs after working with the monitor for a while. Being able to use it on the course as well is a great way to confirm it.

A big help with my handicap recently has been exactly this distance. Ive just started playing everything from this distance with a 52 to 9 iron depending on how much i want it to run out. Ball relatively far back in stance, weight forward, address the ball with toe, and focus on keeping arms straight or the "triangle" throughtout swing. Dont go back too far, hold off follow through at about chest level. I try to get my hands towards my left pocket at contact to make sure they are ahead of the ball. The swingkill move for this setup is taking club away inside, i try to keep face way out there away from me for as long as I can

Idea is basically to just run it up there punch style. Room for error is so much higher. I very rarely fly this distance anymore unless theres no option with the angle of approach.

Agree here. If more players were properly fit for wedges with respect to bounce, and knew how to use it, it would shave strokes off of a lot of folks games.

Try putting the ball a little more forward that you usually do. Helps you commit to covering it. Narrowing the stance will also help with strike and prevents the chunk

Without seeing your swing, it's hard to know. If ball placement looks right (or if you move it and you still chunk) it's likely because you're using your arms and swaying into the ball instead of rotating through the ball. Arm/sway swings result in inconsistent low point which gives us the dreaded chunk.

I'd try doing something where you let your core move your arms around your body to the top and then let your legs and core return the club to the ball. Do it 1/2 swing first to get the motion. Try to keep butt of handle pointed at your chest the entire time at first.

When I’m playing well, 50-100 is a deadly range for me.

My issues with either thin or chunking 100% come down to transition. Have to focus on making sure I really hit that “hinge/lag feel with a full turn even if I’m only going up to 9-10ocklock. Really feeling the club gets set at the top, wherever it is.

I almost think of it as a lazy/hideki type of delay up there vs very intentionally trying to hit the ball if that makes any sense. Letting the club almost fall from the top on its own vs bringing the club to the ball which means my shoulders turning too fast.

When I try to get cute and half arse my turn or get quick, like I’m really “trying” to hit the ball, things go poorly.

I’ve found if the transition is good, ball position doesn’t make a ton of difference. Will effect the flight some but distance and accuracy usually stay consistent.

65-70% weight on left foot is also key.

Well gang, I was able to make a bit of improvement over the last weekend. The big thing that helped was slowing everything down.
I tend to get quick on my take away as my game gets worse. Slowed it down enough to grab a rhythm and the was able to get contact back together.

Next I gotta work on a flatter driver swing I think!

The best advice I can give is practice hitting this distance with a couple of different clubs, just in case the need arises you have that shot stock in your bag. For example I can do the 75-100 yard shot with my 56, 48, and my P wedge, 7 iron, 5 iron, and occasionally my driver.

I play with confidence that I have this shot covered no matter what the circumstances.

In all seriousness I find, for me, what helps get rid of the chunks the best is concentrating on my follow through more so than the back and down swing. Making a full rotation through the ball helps to ensure I make a proper transition to the lead side.
