Federal Workers Forced to Withdraw Investment Income Due to Shutdown Should Not Be Taxed

Thousands of Americans have worked without pay for 5 weeks now. I thankfully have money I can pull from investments, but most of my coworkers do not.
For those of us who do, we are forced to choose between paying “double taxes” since our back pay will also be taxed. However, we don’t know how long the shutdown will be.
You can email your representatives to consider all measures available to not tax those forced to withdraw investment income due to the shutdown. I just did.
Political squabbling affects your average American, not the politicians.

Hundreds of billions in spending are "squabbles?"
That's called passing legislation. But, no different rules for federal workers. They should have the same restrictions as the general public.

You voted for the party that purposely set up this entire situation, then had politicians recently brag about putting bullets in the heads of their opponents children. Spare us your moral high ground.

Why should you be considered "tax special?"
If you:
A. Choose to work for the federal government, you should have an expectation that you may not get paid.
B. Choose not to spend 100% of your income and set aside money for rainyg day needs, you would be ok.
Backpay? Can all is non-fed-types get in on this concept?

Despite my best efforts, it appears I’m limited to a single downvote.

$1.5 trillion in new spending and significant roll backs of the OBBB is what the dems want to let the government open.
They are domestic terrorists.

You should be taxed and penalized if under 59.5 years old. Deal with it.

You vote Democrat, so reap what you sow, dummy. The Democrats 110% own this.

Sucks that your livelihood depends on the government. Personally, I wouldn’t allow myself to be in that situation

You need to learn to be more financially responsible and have a rainy day fund.

Roads
Fire and police departments
Militaries
Education for children
Social benefits for those without means
Judicial system
Taxation and revenue system
Public utilities
You may not personally depend on all of these, but your community collectively depends on them all.

No thank you.
Federal workers are not some sort of a special class of people.

You aren't anymore special than those in private sector and if you don't want to deal with 'shutdowns' then go get a job in private sector with the rest of us. The entitlement attitude of government employees is hilarious. You are entitled to nothing and you made a choice to work for government.

There are people in the private sector eating into their savings and investments as we speak, some looking for months to find work.
Tell everyone why you're special.

I’m retired state and I couldn’t agree with you more. I have endeavored and still am endeavoring to instill in my kids that they will probably have a better sense of fulfillment in the private sector, especially if they one day achieve self-employment. Out of four, I’m batting .500 (2 are teachers, 2 will be private sector) , so I’m fairly pleased.

See the up to down vote ratio? These people do not understand nor care. Frankly, military nor fed civilians should pay income tax at all due to reduced market salaries and lessening benefits.
