First off congrats to Verge on being promoted.
My older brother played ball with Verge and Corey for that matter. He was in that huddle when the odds were against them and knows his character up close and for years. Verge is all heart. He was on the field with Verge when he had 5 ints in 1 football game back in the day. For those of you who claim Verge isnt smart, he had a A/B gpa in hs who had excellent parents. Verge Sr was a principal and his mom i think taught school also. Contrary to what some saying here that Verge is dumb couldn't be more wrong. He enrolled at LSU on an academic scholly if im not mistaken. His perseverance and hard work ethic earned him a starting roles at LSU on defense. He held records for 2 yrs leading the history books at LSU in tackles. May still be a record today. He has been at LSU forever. This is his retirement promotion. He has worked for LSU for over 30 yrs. Id say he has plenty experience of how LSU beats. From what I know, he will do the job as AD to the best of his ability. He is a "football guy" and thays why i gave a couple examples above to show where he has come from an athletic standpoint. Having a rich background in sports as a player and/or coach can give someone total insight in his job the last 30 yrs or so. Yes he is administration but his emphasis is football. Thats big. Say what you will about this and that and he knows where all the skeletons are buried Yada Yada. Some may hate him but I believe he will do his best for football.

I'm good with it if we run the table.

Couldn’t agree more. Verge is a great person. Very excited for him and LSU!

The fact that you came out in support makes me nervous. You aren't known for your solid opinions.

It was a bad hire.
He couldn’t get another AD job in the SEC.
He couldn’t get another AD job at a power 4.
He couldn’t get another AD job at a group if 5 school.

You’ll get downvoted to hell and back, but 99% of those downvotes are going to be from people who are half-assed at their own jobs and probably not the best qualified for their positions.
Verge isn’t perfect but he’s more LSU than literally any other candidate out there, and that is a big plus in my opinion. He deserves a chance before we shite on him.

Did he try? I really don’t know, so I’m actually asking.

quote:maybe your right, maybe its just LSU. He happens to know the dam campus and administration like the palm of his hand. He knows the needs and wants of Louisiana and how it relates to athletics at LSU. Maybe the same holds true for Corey. He went to Fla. His ability as a recruiter wasnt the same as being in south Louisiana. Here at LSU people who bleed purple and gold for decades "know" the situation and what needs to be done more rhan anyone. Just sayin.

I don’t know Verge and I have no idea if he’ll be a good or bad hire. Hopefully good. But I really couldn’t care less that he had 5 interceptions in a game one time back in the day.

I don’t know him. I don’t have any personal opinions about his qualifications to be AD. Here’s what I see:
He has been in the athletic department a long time. That means he has seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. He has also worked for ADs who wanted to make their mark on LSU. As such, I don’t know how much opportunity he had to impact big decisions. The biggest thing I know he do was coordinate FB scheduling. Again- I don’t know what level of autonomy he had vs being told by coaches/ADs “this is what we need.”
He obviously bleeds purple and gold. I don’t recall hearing about him ever trying to leave for another school. It could very well be that I just remember. Regardless, he is a tiger through and through.
Is he on paper the most qualified candidate for AD? Probably not. However, there is something to be said for someone who doesn’t seem to have the massive ego some of our previous ADs have had, who loves the school, and who has seen what works under three different FB coaches to bring national championships back to LSU. I’m cautiously optimistic about his ability to be successful.

The biggest concern most people have is the quickness of the promotion. It was a cut and done deal before the President arrived. They may have given Rousse a quick interview if he had reservations but the process was simply not professional and not a good look.
It would have been far better to wait 48 hours.
He is our AD now we should support him

why because he is black? If it is such a bad hire, why was he around for 25yrs in Athletic Dept?
