I know good news has been terribly rare but I found this.

Luke Fortner:
Fortner, 27, was a third-round pick by the Jaguars in the 2022 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-4, 307-pound offensive lineman started 17 games each of his first two seasons, but played a backup role in 2024.
Saints traded Khalen Saunders straight up for Fortner Aug 18th.
Sanders has hardly gotten a snap from what I can see.
Luke is now starting.
Last week on 27 pass blocks he gave up no penalties no sacks and zero pressures. His 83.0 pass grade was top 3 and his overall grade 80.9 is good enough for top five centers in the NFL. Last year of original contract 1.5 mil

Many posters say stop spending money. Some even say NO FAs only draft
While we all complain about FO pick ups or trades this looks to be a good one. Will we offer a contract before the year is out? Should we?
Looks like a yes so far

I remember starting dudes we were signing off the street last year. Fortner is amazing value for trading a dude we were going to cut anyways.

Some just can't enjoy the occasional good move even if seemingly a small one.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.

Even when Loomis makes a good move, it still fricks us. I wanted to see Ruiz at center to see if he has value b/c I already know he sucks at guard and needs to be replaced.

If he showed he was good, ups his trade value or we trade McCoy and keep him at center next year.

Center is harder by almost every metric.
Saints know Riuz is playing bad at guard.
Saints know he would be worse at center.

You keep bringing this up like you have tourets syndrome. So ask yourself why does he have almost zero snaps at center in the pros since he was in college in 2019?

It’s the position he played in college. And he has started games for us in the past and held up ok at center. This is a different blocking scheme. Won’t know unless you try. That’s why.

Fortner is a free agent after anyway and likely gone, we stuck with Ruizes horrible contract at least next year.

Fortner just had a top played game at center. He's rated very high in his starts for us. Ruiz sucks by every metric this year at a easier position to play. You sound like his agent Cletus Sleestack esq..

Everything done this year should be about next year and the evaluation process. I’ve seen enough of him at RG to know he can’t be brought back to play there next year.

Ruiz has started blocks of games before at center and looked ok. That was years ago. So when you said he has zero snaps there, you were wrong of course.

Because he was one of the worst NFL defensive tackles I’ve ever seen. If he dedicated the amount of time to getting stronger as he did to being a gay rights activist he may have been decent.

Almost zero at center for the Saints and the Saints went...meh

Fortner has good tape that grades better than Ruiz did at center. Is that not good enough I'm sorry to laugh Ms Ruiz but your husband is playing like shite this year (prove me wrong please) and we have a better center playing now than your hubby ever did. Be happy we didn't send yall to the jets!

You are as shortsighted and as dum as Loomis. I said Ruiz is complete garbage. And should not be bright back next year, but will be b/c of his cap hit. I’d rather see if he’s salvageable at center, than a guy that’s likely to leave.

Fortner plays good and he’s gone. Hes a free agent. He does us no good next year.

Before calling me dumb learn to spelll.
Also guaranteeing Fortner is gone next year which is a complete unknown at this point{I think they sign him} is idiotic and premature. But you do you Mr 20/20.
