It might even be the case now, I dunno.

Imagine how quickly it could analyze data and results during a game to make the right call.

Coaches should definitely utilize it to call plays. AI would be excellent at breaking tendencies.

At some point robots will be bigger faster and stronger than players. What’s your point? Do you wanna watch a bunch of robots controlled by AI instead of humans?

You don't think they're not using it now to come up with unique plays that have routes to beat every sort of coverage.

People will laugh, but the quest to perfect sports is a problem. Sports has been fine for decades with flaws. It’s art. It will be imperfect. That’s what makes perfection so fun to see. The miracle games, the incredibly rare performances, etc.

Analytics has, in a way, made sport less entertaining. It has screwed up player development. Analytics controls lineups, pitching changes, basketball shot selection, play calls, etc.

We want perfect officiating all the time, bring in the robots.

Yeah, your thought is laughable, but not entirely. Maybe in an effort to reduce player injuries and eliminate salaries altogether, we just build robots and have them play. They can each be sponsored, and this will increase profit margins for the owners.

The problem with football is that there are not enough similar situations to use the type of analytic reasoning that has been successful in the NBA and MLB.

There aren't enough games and there are too many complications with different matchups and situations that cause the compute power needed to be unrealistic.

It's like comparing a coin flip with your probability of contracting cancer given everything you've done in life that would affect your risk plus genetics.

PJ Tucker's probability of making a corner 3 is like a coin flip. Given enough shots, the probability that he'll make the next shot can be roughly determined.

In football there just aren't enough comparable situations.

For those that know probability theory, it's frequentist vs Bayesian reasoning and AI may be a little better at it than people but the problems will still be extremely difficult given the amount of variables involved.

ChatGPT told me to be on the look out for Rookie Bijon Robinson. I wouldn’t trust AI to coach my fantasy league. Not right now at least.

Windows 94 would do a better job of coaching the bengals than Zac Taylor
