Health Insurance Premiums

What are some of the OT’s health plans and premiums? I’m 50, my wife is 45. Neither of us have any medical problems. My wife has dome thyroid stuff, nothing serious though. Our premiums are around $1,000 a month. Looking for something more affordable. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Brother its outrageous right now. Family of 5 with no health problem, and I’m getting quoted between 2-3k. Its what I get for being a contractor.

1300 month for the pleasure of having a 6500 indvidual/13000 family deductible.
At least it's an hsa. The non hsa plan was around 2100 month, so I just take the difference and put in in the hsa up to the max limit.

The only affordable option is to work for a company that offers health insurance.

Well, the first line of defense against high premiums is determining your eligibility for a federal premium subsidy.
If the enhanced premium tax credits don't expire at the end of the year a couple ages 45 & 50 with no dependents can have a MAGI (modified adjusted gross income) of $100,000 and qualify for a $943 monthly subsidy.
More if you have dependents .

What’s the second line of defense?

It’s almost as if they are looking at your financial status instead of your family’s health status.

I pay $400/month just for me. Wife pays the same via her retirement plan. Could be worse.

I am 67 yrs . old, single/divorced. Kids are in their twenties, so no dependents. I have Medicare Parts A, B & C, plus a Medicare Senior Advantage plan from Kaiser Perm. I pay $192 p/ month for all.
I just had a mild heart attack 3 weeks ago and had an angioplasty with 2 stents installed in my aorta. Feelin' pretty good now. Looks like the whole thing will cost about $95K, and I will be responsible for $5,900, which is the maximum out-of-pocket for the year. Not bad....

If you had stayed with Medicare A & B as your primary insurance instead of leaving for a Medicare HMO aka Medicare C neither of which have anything to do with Medicare. And then picked up a Medicare Supplement policy aka Medigap policy your maximum 2025 annual out of pocket would have been only 257 bucks. Medicare supplement policy premium vary by zip code but at your age the average is around 130 per month
