Eliminating the filibuster would be a huge mistake!

Frankly, it's one of the Dems goals here.

Just compare the two party goals:
The GOP is simply about continuing Biden's budget to keep the government open.
Dems want to go full-on socialism. State-owned and/or controlled Healthcare, Groceries, Media, etc.

Eliminating the filibuster would open the door for all of the Dem goals. If the GOP was talking about its own radical change, e.g., balancing the budget, cutting entitlements, drawing down our debt, etc., it would perhaps be different.

Can't eliminate the Filibuster. It's the wall between some semblance of democracy and anarchy. Do we want a permanent political class of the Squad in control of what's left of law and society? Do we want a one world government controlled by a true Oligarchy?

Trump is showing major weakness here.

That would be a complete "win the battle, lose the war" move. I can't believe this story is true it's so dumb.

I'm sure people are going to pull the ART OF THE DEAL card, though, to blindly support Trump no matter what.

Democracy requires majority... Filibuster is actually protective of the minority opinion. **just saying

It is. It's already been mentioned a dozen times on CNBC this morning

Of course that tweet is written in the most "online content creator" way possible

quote:

BREAKING: President Trump just told Thune to NUKE the filibuster!

HOLY. SH*T.

Looking at the responses to that X post, you can tell the divide between those with a basic understanding of politics (likely built before 2016) and the ignorant political neophytes who just spam MAGA porn.

So you feel the Democrats when back in power will show the same restraint and not go with the nuclear option? I like that it exists; however, it literally can be killed at any moment. If it is so revered than put it into law that it can’t be quickly tossed to the side.

They will do it themselves if given the chance

The democrats, as they are now- we'd be screwed anyway if they got back into power.

You don't think the next Democrat President won't be compelled by a radically progressive base to do this anyway?

This country is coming off the rails, politically- might as well steer into the skid.

What's stopping the dems from nuking the filibuster next time they're in power? I have no doubt that will happen. Beat them to the punch and absolutely bury them

Did they eliminate the filibuster under Biden or Obama? No.

We are a long way away from Obama. Different people are trying to hold positions of power. When the old guard is gone, the lunatics on the left will do it easily

They started chipping away at it in different situations yes. Also you think the Dem party is the same now as it was under Obama?

They eliminated it for all appointees except for SC Justices.

No. I mean the AOC segment and the future Mandamis. Don't act like the Democrats suddenly want to play fair. They have lost their minds since Trump got back in
