Family of 6. Kids ages 14, 8, 6, and 4. We travel to New Orleans from Lafayette often, and typically take 2 trips on the road 12+ hours a year. 4 days of the week it's just myself to and from work...8 minute commute 1 way. Currently drive a 2012 Hyundai Sonata with 160k miles.

I really like the 2025 Suburban Z71, but my limited research is showing that it has transmission/engine problems after about 50k miles. It's the roomiest SUV on the market, if I am correct. I really like the style of the Sequoia, but I'm afraid it may be too small for long trips, and even to New Orleans.

Anyone with a large family can shed some light on what they drive and suggestions? I'm 40 and this will be only my 3rd vehicle purchase for myself. My wife drives an Odyssey and we love it.

We are six with kids from 1 to 12 years old. Last year we bought a Grand Highlander and have no complaints so far

We're on our 2nd Yukon XL, had a 2015 and now a 2020. Got to 135k on the first with no issues except motor mounts, same for this one at 108k. 5.3 engine. It fits 6 of us and all of our crap.

We have a regular size Ford Expedition and like it. May want to check out the large version for family of 6.

“Blondie” has driven a GMC 4dr Yukon since ‘95(skipping’04-‘05, she had a GTO) and is on her 7th or 8th. I’ve even had a Suburban Z71 from ‘04-‘08. Hard for me to recommend anything else…

Excursion 7.3l powerstroke.

Will last forever, can tune it to easily get 350HP and will haul half of Idaho.

The family apocalypse-mobile.

Excursion

Sold my 2000 v10 earlier this year. Had it 9 yrs when I needed to pull 8000 lbs and needed 6 butts in seats. Wife drove it daily when kiddos were little.

Now it wont pass a gas station but appears OP has limited commute.

I second the Sienna if no pulling required.

It do more cargo space behind third row. If I had a family of 6 I would want the extra space. We just have four so the shorter configuration is plenty.

We'll probably end up with a minivan but I tell the wife all the time we should really look into an Express conversion van. Practically the same price new as a loaded out Suburban/Expedition/etc, available on the 2500 chassis if you want to be able to tow, can get 7 or 9 passenger configurations(I'd get a 7), big plush comfy seats, rear folds down to a bed/flat, and a 34" flatscreen in the back. I never want to hear the words "I'm bored" on a road trip again.

I just wish you'd see them without the gaudy body kit/trim packages. Give me a stock looking one with the high roof kit and loaded interior.

I've been trying to convince my wife that our next vehicle needs to be a 7 passenger express 2500. It would be immensely practical for us.

Alas, no self respecting white girl would ever be seen in such an abomination of practicality. Tahoe or bust, price and practicality be damned.

We are only 4, but do travel back and forth between TX and LA often. Extended trips such as Christmas, having a large dog, etc.. We got by with a midsized SUV for years. It worked, but if you flipped up the 3rd row, you had no room for anything. Earlier this year we decided on a Yukon XL. It has been a game changer. So much easier to stay organized without feeling like the back of the vehicle is stuffed with luggage and a kennel so high that you can't see out the back window. And when we do have to utilize the back seat, you still have reasonable storage in the back.

Rented an Expedition for 2 weeks in Mont, Wyoming and Idaho. For adults tons of luggage. Bad arse ride w that 3 rd seat it’s all you would need. Gas mileage good too
