Landry basically said that he does not want the State to be the Guarantor of a 100 million dollar contract. According to Jeff the BK contract has the state of Louisiana as that.
Can't argue with that, but I wish this would not have gone so public.

The coach has to sign the contract with the state, I guarentee you there is another agreement with TAF or whoever that lays out that the money is guaranteed.

Correct. He said that if someone did that, he would not care.
He just doesn't want the tax payer on the hook.

In fairness to him, we're on our way to not being able to muster a candidate worth that much

Proved to me he is a lawyer that thinks he is one step ahead when he’s actually 8 steps behind

Well I did not read the contract and I am not a lawyer, so I would not understand the language in it. Jeff is a lawyer, and that's what he stated.
Again, just what he said.

Make a shell company TAF coaches fund be the guarantor and then when we fire him file for bankruptcy and crawfish on the payment. Genius!

It's the MO of current politics to just spew as many lies as possible, because people can't fact check them all.

Landry doesn't want to do bad deals. I can respect that. He also thinks it is a good idea to give 50Cent tens of millions of dollars to redevelop downtown Shreveport. That is hard for me to reconcile.

Landry's ignorance is shocking.
This is making him look awful and out of his depth.

The state will always be the guarantor of every contract, because LSU (as a subdivision of the state of Louisiana) will always be a party to the contract. That's a pretty asinine statement for him to make, and he knows it. There's no way that you will ever have LSU as not being a guarantor to the contract, unless you want to absolve LSU of having to pay the $400,000 base salary and make TAF fully obligated for the contract.

Then it'll be the TAF Head Football Coach and not the LSU Football Coach.

He's trying to walk back the fact that he completely shite the bed in that press conference, and he knows that LSU only pays about $400,000 annually of the LSU head football coach's salary. The remainder of that money is paid by TAF, a private non-profit (this has been like this for years).

He wasn’t wrong about the state being on the hook in the event of a default.

No offense, but couldn’t this have been posted in one of the 46,000 other Landry posts already up?

Can't argue with that,
Well, he is also saying that the buyout funds were NOT secured before BK was fired. Whoever made THAT decision needs to be fired immediately.... you absolutely never fire a coach with a contract like that without securing the funds FIRST

F him. He's doing what all shitty politicians do. Build his own brand and expand his power while trying to appear altruistic. His actions throughout this have 0 to do with what's good for the people.

Correct, but to pretend as if this is a new occurence or as if there is any way around them not being the guarantor is completely disingenuous on Landry's part. As matt and others have said, there is no precedent for any state having to cover the cost of a coach's buyout and if LSU did not have the donors/money to buy him out, they would not have fired kelly.

He was however wrong about LSU Athletics being tax payer funded. And when Mascona pressed him on it, he side stepped it
