First off let me just clarify. Do I think Scott Woodward has been great? No. Do I think his contract decisions have been good? No.

However, I do think Scott Woodward has been good here in his time at LSU.

Hindsight is always a tough game to play. And Woodward has been screwed in that game. He gave life to A&M and stole a top 5 coach in the entire country when he hired Jimbo. Yes it was an absurd contract, but not as absurd as you people make it. Jimbo was extended long after Woodward left thus causing that huge buyout.

In his time at LSU he has 2 slam dunk A+ hires. 3 nattys between them. Along with this he hired Brian Kelly, who at the time he hired him was a sure fire top 10 coach a A+ hire on paper. How is it Woodward’s fault that Brian Kelly was lazy and mailed it in?

Woodward has given LSU every opportunity to be successful in a very difficult era. With him at the helm I have no doubt that LSU could shock the world and steal a coach no one thought they could. He has a lot, and I mean a lot of connections.

Does he have his flaws? Yes. Has he missed? Yes. But his good for LsU and the potential for even better outrule the negative in my opinion.

It can be so much worse than Woodward.

The money people don’t trust Scott. They want him gone.

Without money there is no athletics department.

He is a lameduck. It is what it is but his career will always be tied to BKs success or lack thereof

Woodward had major say in the BK firing did he not? I mean it’s widely reported he met with BK and told him to pack it up after not liking what he heard.

He didn’t wait, he didn’t let it get worse. Yes BK was a mistake in hindsight but at least Woodward gathered the army and is fixing the mistake and fixing it relatively faster than anyone thought.

Big money people trusted Woodward for that?

I don’t feel strongly either way about Woodward, but a 53 million dollar mistake is hard to overcome in the eyes of the donors. He knew when he hired Kelly that his job would likely be tied to his results.

Woodward didn’t have much say.

There’s two stories going around. 1 is that Woody fired BK and the other is that Landry/BOS made it happened.

The same money people that paid off BK don’t trust Scott to hire the next coach. They aren’t happy with the BK ROI

I mean a 10 year contract only going 3.5 years with 50+ million buyout for them and they should be pissed.

Good points.

I’m fine with Woodward having more eyes on him and limitations. Definitely don’t want him with free reign like prior, but I think completely firing him would be a massive mistake

Because when you give a man $100M when hes 1 year from retirement age, guess what? He retires early

BK never had any intention of working hard enough to earn that money until he was 71. He just wanted to coast. Woodwards contract should have been heavily dotted with goals, rather than guaranteed money

So it was entirely Woodys fault

Scott Woodward, apparently searching for atta boys from the National media, destroyed LSU’s basketball program. Burned it to the ground. I won’t shed a tear for him. There are plenty of people capable of being the LSU AD.

What 60 year old wouldn’t take a 100mm guaranteed!!!

I would have probably mailed it in too at 64

You and me talking on a message board does not make a bit of difference. If Scott is going to be fired what are we going to do about it?

It’s 27m not because Scott made it 27.

Scott would have had it 54m per his contract.

Yahoo Sports reported that some of the school’s most prominent donors, key university board members, athletic officials, and political figures met over the course of several hours Sunday about Kelly’s future. The discussions included Governor Landry and centered significantly on Kelly’s $53.8 million buyout.

According to the reporting, decision-makers met at the Louisiana Governor’s Mansion on Sunday evening, just before 7 PM, where they ultimately decided to fire Kelly.

It’s starting to sound like he didn’t intend on firing Kelly

Funny thing is Jimbo admitted on the radio today that Woodward didn’t make his buyout what it was. The ad that signed Jimbo to the extension after woody is on the hook for it per Jimbo. So the narrative that woody has done this twice is just flat out wrong.
