Haven't been there in at least 15 years, but I definitely had some good times working behind the bar.

Used to hit Acadian location all the time in college. Tons of friends worked there and we ate and drank mostly free. haven't been in an outback in 25 years

We liked the Alice Springs Chicken, the Coconut Shrimp, the salads and the bread.
It was very good when it opened.

It always looked out of place not being off an interstate.

Went there a year back after a doctor's appointment and it was horrible. Service was terrible, food was worse.
Just didn't seem like the owners and management cared anymore. Maybe a dozen customers at most.

Other than City Cafe, I don't think any of the restaurants in that area are doing well. Nagoya's either closed or they should be, Jones Creek Cafe is a retirement community and rumor is that Portabellos is in jeopardy of shutting the doors.
Not sure about Jasmine's, but they have limited parking and the lot never looks even half full.

I remember having an accounting instructor who evidently invested in businesses and... well this was 2000-2001 I think.. And I remember him talking about how he loved Outback's business model and he said something like "Baton rouge could support three or four outbacks" Or maybe he said three or four more, but there have never been more than 2 right? Or did they have one out on O'Neil?
Anyway, the instructor was kind of a high strung guy and ended up leaving with like 2 weeks left in the semester because he accepted another job and his TA taught the last two weeks. Was there something unique about their business model?

Celebrity Theater is the best theater in BR. And my wife and I go to the Indian restaurant across the street whenever we go to the movies.
But yeah, the entire Woodlawn area seems like a retirement community to me. And I thought so when I worked there in the early 2000s. No offense if you live there.

There really is no reason to go to a place like Outback in the year 2025

I worked in multiple restaurants, corporate, chain, and independent. Outback (back then at least) ran the best of all of them by far.
One GM (proprieter) and one manager. Most chain restaurants have a slew of assistant managers making next to nothing and treating the staff like garbage because they desperately need to be promoted to a general manager at another store to actually afford to live.
Family-owned restaurants are usually disorganized.
Outback treated the staff great and you could make good money for a college kid working there. This is pre 2008 though. The economy crash forced Outback to market to a different demographic that tips and pays less. It's hard to come back from that once you downgrade.

The link is not working for me. Is only the Jones Creek location closing or both of them?

Fun fact: Jamal Mashburn a former NBA player who is also a successful entrepreneur, and he owns numerous Outback Steakhouse franchises.
Also, the Outback near me in Texas is very good.
Sad to see the one on JC close. It too was very good years ago.

quote:. Jones’s creek will be fine. They have a steady crowd. The old people do frequent that place from open to close though.
Jones Creek Cafe is a retirement community
quote:They already closed the one in Bocage. Not surprising that this one’s days are numbered.
Portabellos is in jeopardy of shutting the doors.
quote:. Jasmines is always packed. Even with their big new addition. They will be fine. Plus their pockets must be deep if they were able to close down for almost a year during the remodel.

Unfortunately Swagat right there is not as good any more with the new owners.
That George’s also sucks now.

I forgot about Mason's Grill around the corner on Jefferson. They always do good business, and could do a lot more if they had more parking.

Thanks, I only really think about it when Outback is mentioned, but I always was curious what he was referring to or what did Outback do that was different than other chains. And I do remember, specifically in the early 2000s when Outback was a really good restaurant. I have never been one to go to a chain restaurant when going have dinner, but over the years in the early 2000s I had gone there a few times and it was always a good experience. From what I remember.
This part makes me think about what were/are the long term impact from the great recession. If anyone has any books they can suggest that touches on this please let me know.

That’s a good point. I have attempted to go to Mason’s twice in the last few months for their wing night and it’s a completely packed lot so I just keep driving and end up at Just Winging It.
