In defense of Garrett Nussmeier

Nuss has taken a lot of heat recently, some of it is on him but a lot of it is unwarranted. His o-line has been awful, he’s been hit on nearly every drop back this season and he has no running game to back him up. When the defense drops 8 into coverage and can get pressure with 3, anyone is going to have a hard time to succeed. Have there been times this year when he should’ve tucked it and ran? Yes. Have there been times when he’s thrown awful interceptions? Yes. Nuss isn’t the reason that we lost to A&M and he wasn’t the reason why we lost to Vanderbilt. He clearly hasn’t been healthy and this coaching staff should’ve never allowed him to play in a couple of these games. Sloan had zero business calling plays at LSU and he 100% wasn’t doing Nuss any favors. Nuss has definitely lost money with his draft stock this year but he’ll he just fine with his $4 million
The NFL execs will take this into consideration regarding the draft:
-Poor o-line play
-Health
-Lack of run game
-Awful coaching/playcalling
How many terrible QB’s have we seen drafted way too high over the past few years? All of these QB’s were drafted in the first round: JJ McCarthy, Mitch Trubisky, Anthony Richardson, Will Levis, Kenny Pickett, Zach Wilson, Josh Rosen, Deshon Kizer. Take a look at how high Tyler Shough, Malik Willis, and Will Grier were drafted.
How many guys have we seen recently that have had average to above average careers at LSU and then go on to thrive in the NFL? In the right scheme, I expect Nuss to do the same. You could see how emotional he was during the 4th quarter at Vandy, how much he cared and how bad that affected him. Those are the kind of guys that I want in this program. Nuss 100% could’ve played better at times this year, but this train wreck of a season isn’t on him

Downvoted. Didn’t read.

Lack of a run game is just false. Berry was going off in the 1st half and had one carry in the 2nd for some reason. We should have kept feeding him

Anyone that thinks Nuss is the biggest or even close to one of the biggest problems on this team is beyond retarded

I think the reality is he's much closer to an average QB than some believed
And that's Ok.
I wish him well in future endeavors!

Nuss had an opportunity to report to campus in the best shape of his life and fit for the rigors of a championship run.
That fitness would have allowed him the vision and agility required to work the pocket and to move the chains with his feet reliably.
I don’t believe for one second that he seized that opportunity.

think if all the plays that the opposing QB's have made in LSU's losses. Just dagger after dagger.
Nussmeier never has any moments like that. LSU's only shot this season was if Nussmeier made everyone else better, and he has failed miserably.

Hard to knock the guy when he's playing injured. We aren't in his body so we don't know how much pain he was dealing with. And playing behind a bad Oline keeps your head on a swivel. His body language could be better on the field tho. This year has been a disaster all the way around.

We should have kept running the ball. Idk what you are getting at. It was working. That’s not on Nuss but brain dead Sloan

You don’t know that he is injured to be honest.
More likely that there has been a lot of damage control around his obvious lack of mental and physical preparation for this season.
Good kid I believe, just not a championship caliber competitor.

I expect Garrett to rally this team and finish the season strong

Plus, he threw for 4,000 yards last year. He didn't forget how to play football in the offseason. Last year's Oline could pass protect.

He was either unprepared mentally this year or just sucked.
He was either hurt or too scared to run the ball.
These are facts no matter how the OL played.
I really hoped he would have a good year, after seeing him for 1 1/2 seasons
he would not be my starting QB, he could never bring a team to win the SEC.
Wish him nothing but the best in the future.

Your QB is and always will be THE most important player on the team. Sets the tone, touches ball every play. Our QB came in unprepared physically and mentally. He is not the QB to have if you want to win the SEC. I would take just about every other teams starting QB over him.
Wish him the best.

He is on his back constantly.

Just like he feigns injury every time he peels himself off the ground.
