Bigwigs are split on who they want to bring in next

Some want a young (40ish) coach who can relate to and handle players and navigate the NIL/Transfer portal environment. They would also like a person with LSU ties who will prioritize in state talent.
Others want a person with a NFL background who can come in with a staff that is familiar with the NFL type model that college football is sliding towards. They also want someone who can set high standards and help players to reach them.
The problem is while one group has a pretty good chunk of change between them they are not happy at the thought of having for fork over more than $125 million to make things happen. They want the other group, which has more members, to pony up the money.
As far as I can tell, this eliminates Kiffen who apparently is only interested in staying put or going to UF

What’s Jim McElwain up to these days?
Maybe he deserves a second chance in the SEC. LSU is a better job than Florida. Nobody has ever had much success at Florida outside of Spurrier, Meyer, and maybe Mullen sort of.
He did a really good job for Saban for several years at Bama. He also did pretty well as the head coach at Colorado State.
He might bring the stability the program needs right now.

Aside from Joe Brady and Saban, I don't think we've had one single former NFL hire be successful at LSU.

I'll take former Miami Dolphin coach Bill Arnsparger for $500, Bob.

Does anyone believe in Brian hartline or is he still too green with no HC experience? Lanning didn’t have HC experience before Oregon

So they both want Kelvin Shepherd

Hopefully getting his teeth white again
We don’t want him here

Mac did a good job at Florida, especially in recruiting. Those players that Mullen did well with were all McElwain players.

I know the the wheels fell off at the end but Les was the TE coach for the Cowboys before he went to Okie State. So there’s that

They aren’t the only 2 good coaches out there Bubba.
I for one prefer a younger coach and lesser known guy for 5-6million a year and money left to get him some Top assistants.
I personally think these high salaries for head coaches will come down or stabilize considering all the moving pieces you have to have working behind the scenes to be successful now.
And if he does well we bump him up.
People don’t jump ship on LSU that easily but we should be able to move on in 3 years if it doesn’t work and not be handcuffed to another buyout.

I doubt very many in demand NFL coaches would want to go to a college program. Frankly, a college job is WORSE than an NFL job.
The NFL is highly competitive with little job security. College football use to at least have some degree of job security. It doesn't any more.
The NFL also has structure in the way its players are paid. As a NFL coach you are not having to constantly re-recruit the bulk of your players.
Recruiting in college is a 365 day job. NFL coaches get an actual offseason.
The quality of life if probably worse for a college coach.

I have a feeling boosters w money will want a say and it will turn into a disaster

Banging sharks on the deck of a boat somewhere in the Florida Keys most likely.

If you make a big decision to do a $53M buyout then you have to make a big splash hire.
Makes zero sense to do a $53M buyout to prioritize a G5 coach. They need to go after big fish first.

I agree with you and what you say. However there is a logjam for NFL head coach candidates. I think some assistants can be plucked for the right amount of money. The biggest problem is that LSU is unlikely to get and major college coach,

Nevermind the fact that Jeff "10 Commandments" Landry is now getting involved with this.
