Thoughts?

Was the DC for Michigans natty team in 2023. We need a young energetic mind with a personality to light a match with our fanbase and I think he would be the perfect fit.

Why? None of you would even know who Kelvin Sheppard was if he didn't play for LSU.

Not saying they should hire him. Just if they were going nfl DC...

If anyone would hire Sheppard before Minter they are a fool.

What makes Kelvin Sheppard a better option than Jesse Minter?

Exactly. Kelvin Sheppard has only been a coordinator for half a season

I don't think he can get a job until April due to a show cause, otherwise I'd be onboard

Why throw that out? The fact that he played here is part of the appeal. If he's successful then he may never leave and we could have our very own Kirby Smart. Sheps biggest appeal is that he has more upside with us than anyone else and that comes from the fact that he played here

based on what? Him being from LSU? He’s only been a coordinator for 7 games for a defense that was already good. Like others have said yall wouldn’t even consider him if he didn’t go to lsu. Resume isn’t big enough.

That shouldn't even be a consideration. If it happens that's fine. But, to use that as a criteria is short sighted.

I don't understand your reasoning. We should just ignore upside? Why?

Because it's true. If Kelvin Sheppard had been a successful NFL DC for 4+ years, sure, at least consider him. But he hasn't. He's in his first year as a DC and the only reason people on this board even know who he is is because he played at LSU. He's not considered to be one of the best DC's in the NFL because he is in the infancy of his career. We may as well give Tyrann Matthieu a shot as some of the other village idiots have suggested. Hell, why not Matt Flynn? Or Jacob Hester?

Agreed that would be ideal, but at that point he would likely be unattainable. If you want a guy like that you have to go get him now or risk him becoming an NFL HC. You have to be realistic with who we can get

The difference here is how fast Shep moved up to where he is today. It's apparent that the people who work with him really value him. And those people obviously know football considering they work for the Detroit lions. This is a team in their super bowl window trusting their defense to a guy who barely has any coaching experience. I think it's a safe assumption that he must be very impressive to get promoted that quickly

To clarify I'm not saying that he should be the guy. But I'm also not arrogant enough to think that me, you, or Woodward know better than the Detroit Lions

He has been successful every where and moved up the ranks pretty quickly.

He is also undefeated as a head coach, averaging winning by 27 points.

He's the DC for the best team in the NFL right now?
