I don’t believe for a minute Woodward argued firing Brad Davis

It does make sense. Davis was basically the only holdover from O’s staff, is a BR guy, and who Woodward got to coach the Texas Bowl. I could see Woodward wanting to be loyal to Davis.

Huh?
The article says:
The report says that after Woodward requested Kelly fire offensive coordinator Joe Sloan, the head coach stated he would also let go of Davis. Per Fortuna, that message did not go over well with Woodward.

I think Kelly offered up Davis INSTEAD of Sloan. That article is the only source I’ve seen spell it out that way, thus I think it’s inaccurate.

More to the story than you know. LSU is very political. This could have been brewing for while.

I think BK had his hands on the OL more than most people realize. It was ultimately his call on who started at OT and whether or not to take some OT in the portal this year.
This is of course after BK proclaimed how amazing this line was in the offseason based on his "35 years of coaching"

I get that part of it, but seems odd that Woodward would be adamant enough about keeping Davis that he was willing to get into a $53M pissing contest with Kelly.
BK was Woodward's hand-picked guy, and he had much more incentive to let Kelly do what he wanted to do with the staff than going to bat for Davis.
I think there is more to the story that will unfold over the coming days/weeks

You don't let dead man walking makes moves

Only reason to keep Davis would be personal. Because professionally he should be at the top of the firing list.

I
Think he’s been loyal to Davis but look at the o line play the last several years.
Even with 4 NFL players they were bad. That’s all Davis.
He has to go. Should have been gone a long time ago

OP is saying that Woody wouldn't have said no to firing Davis. It does seem odd since the OL hasn't been technically sound for a few years in run blocking.

Maybe but the O line was bad with Davis as the line coach BEFORE BK got here.

Ok, maybe just my interpretation of the wording. I get it, but sometimes you have to weed out where the root of issues are to get at the real ones, and you can't fire everyone midseason.

Davis has been an LSU interim coach before so Kelly wanted him gone.

Yeah but OL was a huge issue. I've listened to a few former players talk about how bad their fundamentals are.

further proof that BK was a fraud from day one.

Said this in a similar post, not buying that Woodward and BK had a meeting where Woodward demanded that Kelly fire anyone and then Kelly ends up being the one that gets fired. Makes no sense.
What does make sense is that they had a meeting where BK said he was going to fire Sloan, Davis, whoever and Woodward said no, Sloan isn’t the problem, you are. Boosters, athletic admins and the governor don’t meet the night before to discuss firing an OC or OL coach.
