Not understanding the hype there.
Troy > Tulane > LSU?
Hes like 15-6 at Tulane. Did well at Troy, i guess. But this is the SEC

Sumrall would be a grade A disaster.
Let him go to Auburn or Kentucky.
We don’t hire Tulane’s coach

You make such a compelling case against him. What's the proper trajectory for you? Alabama > New England Patriots > LSU?
He's 38-10 as a HC, 34-3 in conference play, he has two conference titles (and possibly a 3rd this year). He's young, bright, and seems hungry. I am not saying he's my first choice but he's a solid backup option if we strike out on some other candidates.

Tulane is an acknowledged stepping-stone school. It's a given that anybody who does well there, given it's academic restrictions, is guaranteed a good look at a better football program: Mack Brown (Texas), Tommy Bowden (Clemson), Rich Rod (West Virginia)
The most recent is Willie Fritz (Houston). Something makes me feel like Sumrall's at this level. Even gives off Billy Napier-ish trajectory vibes.

Mack Brown (UNC). Mack Brown left Tulane to become the Head Coach at UNC. A job he held for 10 years prior to taking the HC position at Texas.

You must be stupid

These folks will only be happy with a “name”, a proven winner, a major school experienced guy. Never mind the fact that is exactly what we just fired.

If you’re looking for that jay johnson type who sleeps, breaths and eats football, he may be the guy. Thats the way he comes across to me

I agree. Sumrall sucks. You don’t want him
Posted on 10/27/25 at 6:49 am to GrizzlyWintergreen
Nah he'd be great.

For the people that say he sucks.
What about him sucks? Is it just because he’s at Tulane? Bc I’ve been researching him and I think he’s a great coach and a good fit for LSU IF LSU misses on their top choice. He
Is unproven at a big school but that is his only negative. If you don’t want him for that reason then that’s understandable, but I have yet to see evidence he sucks

If this was 2000 half this board would be saying something along the lines of “Michigan state???!! We don’t hire people from Michigan state. So what Saban is like 25-10 at Michigan state? What does that show about being able to check down here in the SEC?!”
