‘Breaking point’: Teachers beg for help as post-pandemic classroom violence spirals
Teachers in Modesto, California are begging their school district to institute changes to behavior policies as students are becoming increasingly violent since returning to school after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The teachers association for Modesto City Schools (MCS) confronted the district’s school board on Monday armed with photos of destroyed classrooms to voice their distress that the violence and chaos overtaking classrooms made it near impossible for them to do their jobs. Teachers said they have been bitten, kicked and cursed at, and said other students were scared, according to CBS News.
“If there’s no consistency and there’s no reinforcement, then your classroom becomes chaos,” Jennifer McGrath, president of the Modesto Teachers Association, told CBS. “Some things have to change so that we can start educating again.”
McGrath said that policies instituted during the time students began returning to school following the pandemic were aimed more toward keeping students in school rather than disciplining them.

Just put up more trans and rainbow flags. Work on getting more drag shows to visit schools and more "how to practice sodomy" books for elementary kids. It is important to be nice and have a welcoming environment.

Its almost like the bad kids are emboldened by growing up seeing other criminals get away with violence and theft with minimal consequences even when caught.

I am retiring in December after 30 years in a public school classroom. What we do today hardly resembles what education was like when I began my career.

Are Hispanic kids a big disciplinary problem? The ones I've been around have been very well behaved. They will talk about you in Spanish, though. I know just enough Spanish to make 'em think I understood everything they just said. Freaks 'em out.

Saw something on this last night. Evidently the school is rewarding these miscreants for their behavior.
The first education class I was required to take was behavioral psychology. I see that administrators dont understand it.

It’s pretty common for a student to lose their shite on a teacher, be sent out with a referral, then be back in class before the period is over with candy they are given by administrators.
The other kids see it and are obviously like WTF?

The border has poured with a lot more than Hispanics.
Haitians, Somalians, Indians.
And Venezuelans are very different than say Cubans.

This also has a lot to do with parents not parenting and having a tablet screen babysit their kids.

The main reason I chose not to pursue the career after going through the educational requirements.
I taught at an alternative school, the kids signed "contracts" which stated required behaviours. The kids were never held accountable, which meant they knew they could get away with anthying they desired.

After public school elementary & middle school our daughter is now in private. The vast majority of her instructors are retired or ex-patriot public school survivors. Let me just say from first-hand experience, the problem isn’t the vast majority of teachers, but the students, parents, and administrators.
It’s not coincidence that my daughter’s private high school is chock full of public school teachers and administrators kids.

Here's the problem with public education in a nutshell. Public schools receiving funding based on attendance. If a kid has behavioral issues, disrupts class, and basically makes it so that teaching a class is almost impossible, schools rarely remove that kid because that leads to less money for the school. In other words, keeping a butt in a seat is more important than actually educating a child.
