He made Dracula, Godfather III, etc, to dig himself out of his 70’s/80’s spending sprees bankruptcies. Those movies gave enough cash to build his wine business and other interests. Now Megalopolis has sunk him again, and he's selling off personal items for cash. Like his expensive custom made watches.

quote:

I don’t have any money because I invested all the money, that I borrowed, to make ‘Megalopolis,’” he said in March during the “Tetragrammaton” podcast, speaking with the music producer Rick Rubin. “It’s basically gone.” At the center of Mr. Coppola’s sale with Phillips is a timepiece that he designed himself in 2014 in collaboration with F.P. Journe, a Swiss watch company whose horological marvels are expensive enough to make Rolex look like Swatch.

He’s hoping Mega can make money down the road, but refuses to let it stream, insisting that you see it in theaters.

I saw the documentary on Megalopolis and it seemed at least superficially clear Coppola was aware the funding of the movie might bankrupt him

I wanted to see Mega but he’s being such a pretentious a-hole about it streaming.
Screw him. I won’t ever watch it.

He's definitely into the smell of his own farts. Granted that he made his mark with the Godfather and nothing can destroy that. But Megalopolis, while ambitious, didn't really land for me. Driver gave a solid performance but even being a Roman history nerd didn't make all of FC's Megalopolis references terribly deep or meaningful.

I saw him speak in Denver and it was quite interesting but also quite sad. He rambled for over an hour about all manner of topics, none of which about his films. I've never seen people walk out of a Q&A before, but people were dropping like flies.

From the first day you to work you save money. When you can you invest. You don't put all your money at risk within a decade of the end of your natural life.
