He at least had the balls to see if he had what it takes to succeed at the highest levels of his profession. So many don’t even try for fear or failure.

It sucks that he just doesn’t have what it takes, in watching that unravel now and over the next months or years, I don’t enjoy watching for the man.

It’s a hard thing for a man to accept when he’s found his limits, but it happens to pretty much all of us, just not on a national stage.

I’m not predicting it, but he’s gonna have a whole lot of receeps if he drops his nuts all over A&M & Bama

Agreed.

Hoping he rights his descent. Not as hopeful as my pumper heart usually is, unfortunately.

Truer words, my friend.

It's not his limits. He's just lazy.

I see little that is heroic in Kelly's decision to come to LSU.
He was offered 100 million dollars, job security until retirement, a top notch program and built in recruiting advantages. He cashed in.
I have little doubt he thought he could succeed here, perhaps win a Natty, but he came here based on $.

Yea I'm sure the $4M raise per year had nothing to do with that decision

Is it probable? No
Is it possible? Yes

I’m sure there were some delusional fans about our 5-2 team in 2022 too

I tend to agree. He at least took a chance in the SEC at a program that had the 3-previous Coaches winning a Championship during their tenure.

But if he were to accept that he hit his limits he would likely be retiring. No active Coach is going to accept that if they feel they still have something left. If he were to accept that this was a mistake and he retired, I would forever be a fan of Brian Kelly.

Nice post.

I can understand and not having the players in a way but I cannot understand the lack of preparation that is squarely on BK. If he has organizational management issues, he’s making enough money that he could hire someone to help him with that. One of the first things they thought us in Air Force ROTC at LSU all those years ago was this… prior proper planning prevents persistent poor performance. It doesn’t manner if you are planning a bombing run, running a McDonalds franchise or coaching a football team. Your job is to prepare and be prepared.

Agree and that’s the very disappointing part.

No excuse to have the level of planning we have had the last four years. He has resources all over to improve performance but it does not show at the times needed. Yes, we look better than 2020/2021, but seem stuck in mediocrity due to too many holes and playing constant Whac-a-mole.

He is too content to give coaches 2 years to prove their ineptitude which results in this non performance in big games.

I get the money angle... but he was making well at ND too.

Ask any man in the NFL would they rather the money or the ring?

Your winners will say the ring.

To paraphrase from the Big Lebowski:

"Is that what it takes to be a man?"

"Sure, that and a pair of testicles.

In Kelly's case:

"SURE, THAT AND $100MM GUARANTEED!

Boy that was a tough decision.
100 mill for ten years of standing on the sidelines , red faced, and yell at the clouds, until they run me off. I wouldn't hire competent assistants either. If I win, they may keep me around for the full ten years.
What a choice.
Stand in the Sun each Fall, or buy a Condo in Miami.

IDGAF

We suck and it’s his fault. He set this program back, LSU could’ve gotten back to modern blue blood status, instead, we’re mid tier and his contract will make sure we remain that way until at least 2028 or even later.

We wasted Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers with the second best offense we’ve ever had and the best offense in college that year.

Even with our defense’s worst game we would’ve won the national championship with those guys. The defense was so bad that we might as well have never punted and gone for it on 4th every time. Let that sink in.
