Lake Tahoe recs

Looking to take a trip to Tahoe late summer next year for my wife and I's 15-year anniversary. Looking for recommendations on where to stay, South or North Lake Tahoe, and of course, recommended places. We are looking to do as many outdoor activities as possible, such as hiking, kayaking, biking, and whatever else we can find. Good dining will be of interest as well. Nightlife is not much of a concern to us, but we would indulge if we are around it. We previously went and attempted to stay in South Lake Tahoe at Heavenly, but we had to evacuate due to forest fires, so we did not get to experience the area at all. Any suggestions welcome.

For an anniversary I'd stay at Edgewood.

I really enjoyed being away from all the development on the south side.
We stayed at the Hyatt Regency on the north side. Unfortunately it's going under a renovation that makes it not an option, but look around that and the West side for a less touristy feel.

Stayed at “The Landing” on the south shore. It’s on the state line just inside California. Walkable to Heavenly and the shops and casino if you like that. They also have a shuttle. We did an e-bike tour of the south shore almost to the island castle. Great place. Fun places to eat along the shore also but I don’t remember the names. Several with outdoor seating on the beach. We rode the “Pope Baldwin Bike Path” and rented near the beginning of that.

Anywhere you can find from ~10oclock to 12 on the california side with a view is pretty nice. Some older places dont have air but this time of year its no biggie.

South Lake Tahoe is my preference. There are two Marriott Vacation clubs right in Heavenly next to the gondola. Usually reasonable priced, with a kitchen. Rooms at the casinos are fairly reasonable. Zalanta resort is about $700/nt.

Just got back from Lake Tahoe. We stayed in North Lake Tahoe for 3 nights and South Lake Tahoe for 4 nights.
North Lake Tahoe is much quieter and more the type of place I would like to stay. South Lake Tahoe reminded me of a Panama City Beach resort type town.
All that being said, the south is closer to most of the better trails, restaurants, bike shops, etc. IMO. I’d just try to stay outside of the city in Fort Richardson or Kiingsbury or somewhere like that.
Also, highly recommend eating at Bruschetta. Casual Italian, but great food and service. Also a great little ice cream shop a few doors down.
