there is a guy on TikTok called Japanese Carpenter. His videos are like Bob Ross to me. Just amazing craftsmanship

What isn't apparent is the wonderful smell of those tatami mats. My room in Japan had the standard sliding panels, a built-in wardrobe, a crazy comfortable legit futon and a single table where my Homestay mom placed a fresh single flower every day. From my window U could see the mountains and the oceans. It was a minimalists dream. Rooms are measured by the number of tatami mats-so they will say "your room is a 10 tatami mat room".

As someone who has spent many of my formative years in Japan and South Korea, 90% of the houses here are paper thin and poor quality.

This is an ancient technique and the builder/owner is probably rich.

Japan doesn’t have orcs to break through those paper thin walls like we have here
