I am looking to pick up some new boat rods this Black Friday to replace some aging equipment. Does anyone have a good combo they can recommend? Any Black Friday deals leaked yet or maybe something from last year someone remembers. Budget $150-$200 all in for rod and reel.

Sierra.com has penn battle 2000 for $89. Thinking of pairing a couple of those with some falcon coastal or bucoo rods for another $100 or so.

I have some Okuma DTR popping rods with Okuma ITX reels and they have been great for less than $200 a combo

I like the Penn Battles. Prob will get one or two of those 2000’s you listed.

What do you plan on using it for? It’s hard to recommend a set up without knowing the specific techniques you intend to use.

Main use is trout fishing either popping cork or carolina rig with live shrimp or gulp. I mostly use baitcasters for fishing with artificial.

Shimano Nasci FC on a TFO professional rod should be right at $200. Falcon coastals are good too, just a little on the slow side for thowing artificial. I don't care for prepackaged combos; the rods are usually garbage.

Shimano Nasci or Sahara, Daiwa BG or Procyon.

Falcon Coastal rods are great. I love my Daiwa Procyon setup too. Waterloo rods are also solid for me.

I may splurge a little and get an ultegra and stradic from Japan. I ordered a stradic sw (japanese saragosa) this summer before the tariffs kicked in. Thinking about pairing them with Dobyns Maverick rods. Is anyone familiar with these? They seem to be priced well on amazon around $50-$60 down from around $100ish

New or old model? New model added some saltwater protection but old model still has more than a nasci. I’d never buy a nasci over an ultegra for saltwater

I have 5 of these that I used on trips at times and they have performed very good for the money. Zero issues with them

I have the 7-0 medium and they cast well and the drags are solid

IMO the Okuma equipment I have purchased is the best bang for the buck I have ever spent. Okuma is somewhat underappreciated in the Gulf of America community. Extremely popular in the northwest, from what I have seen.

I bought an Okuma baitfeeder (I cannot even remember the name right now) for surf fishing 30 years ago. I have used it a lot and simply wash it off with fresh water and use Reel Magic after each trip, and it is still as good as the day I bought it.
