I like a lot of Green Day’s music. American Idiot was a solid rock opera for its day, and most of its criticisms on the Bush Administration’s War on Terror and the culture of suspicion, surveillance, and mass paranoia plastered over by jingoistic displays of faux patriotism were extremely spot on.

Billy Joe had no ability to be objective and continue those apt criticisms against Obama or Biden, but with Bay Area leftists, expect Leftism.

Green Day, despite being pretty simple and formulaic, were actually really innovative in the early/mid 90’s. They really did start off as a diy band playing basement shows with hardcore bands, but they were just catchy enough at the right time to blow up.

Uno, Dos, Tres are awful, but most of their albums are solid.

I don't get the hate for the music of Green Day. As a drummer myself, I consider Tré Cool's work with Green Day as very good. Also, I'm age 69, but so many of my friends and former high school and college friends just are boxed in musically to 'classic rock' and never evolved to the next wave in music genres and don't give 90's and early 2000’s alternative rock its due. Too bad for them.
