I get that he hasn't been a HC, but he has a lot of positives.

-He can help coach the defensive side. You still bring in a DC.
-He's a great motivator compared to someone like Aranda who is low key. Players love Baker and will play hard for him.
-Young energetic guy that relates to players
-He's a good recruiter and would be a good closer on recruits.
-He would stay here long term, knows the program and players and would probably take a reasonable contract.
-Would allow LSU to go get the best OC available
-Austin Thomas and staff can handle a lot of the admin and roster build

Yes. Limited 5 year contract with minimum buyout and heavy on incentives

Only thing I worry about is him being good buddies with Sloan

But it’s a good way to get BK out of town without completely blowing up the program

Sure. You got $53 Mil for the BK buyout.

We don’t need $53m

Kelly gets paid the same through 2031. There’s no upfront lump sum “cash” payment

I’m cool with interviewing him so he thinks he has a chance and is under consideration.

But LSU is a top 5 job in the coaching world. I think you go get someone who has success and some skins on the wall.

You don't give the keys to a top 5 program to a unproven coach.

There are big time coaches that would jump on the job.

Positives: You could get him at a low price leaving some money for NIL.
If he proves he can handle the job, then we could boost his salary.
Hell he may. be able to hire Orgeron as DL Coach or DC. If we fire Woodward.

I'd rather take a chance on someone young and unproven than give another "white whale" a bloated longterm contract. Like the other guy said, 5 year contract with minimum buyout and heavy on incentives. Unfortunately, that is unlikely to happen with Woodward making the decisions.

It's possible Drinkowitz made BB look better than he actually is as a DC.

Ole Miss and Vandy exposed him!

After that disgraceful defensive performance I just watched Saturday? No thanks

That's what Kelly was supposed to be. He was the "splash hire".

I like Baker, but you have to earn your spurs. Blake has to become a head coach at some point before he can be considered for an SEC head coaching post.

I like Baker overall but that was a VERY disappointing performance by our defense Saturday.

You have no way of knowing this.

Why should I be convinced that Baker knows who the best OC available is? He has never had to hire an OC or ever had anything to do with the offensive side of the ball.

Why should I trust Austin Thomas to build and entire roster and coaching staff?

Yes. I like his energy, and the players love him. LSU needs a players coach. He'll need to hire a hotshot OC though.

Dumb overreactions. Baker has elevated this defense each year.
