Nvidia and TSMC unveil first Blackwell chip wafer made in U.S.

Our board world economics expert Rogertheshrubber told us tariffs wouldn't bring back American manufacturing but the world's 8th richest man, and founder of the most dominant chip maker, is saying differently. I don't know who to believe.

You got a chip, congrats which was built in a plant that was conceived because of Covid bullshite, not tariffs, Genius.

Clearly we have a major vulnerability with China threatening the world’s chip manufacturing in Taiwan, cornering the market on rare earths, etc. Trump was the first major politician to recognize this and galvanize our country, and the west, to meet these challenges before it is too late. He merits a place in history for that.
Maybe there were better ways of doing this than tariffs and price supports. The tariffs are doing some heavy lifting, though - forcing allies to shoulder defense burdens, forcing re-trading of trade deals, and reshoring critical manufacturing.
In any event, this is great news, and it’s something I’ve been wondering about.

It serves 2 purposes. First being the fact that manufacturing is coming back to the US. Second, and more importantly, this will lower our dependance on foreign entities for micro chips which has been a major problem recently.

Why? Once the plants are built and operating what are the costs of doing business here that will drive them away? This is not labor intensive, and labor costs and productivity in Taiwan are not reason enough to relocate, especially considering the threat from mainland China.

The CHIPS act was signed in 2022. 53 billion in grants and subsidies. This has nothing to do with tarrifs.This was started by Covoid. The de-risking from China was made apparently clear. President Trump in is first term put things in motion. Biden signed the CHIPS act and allocated 53 billion to build the factories and move production.
The tariffs are a great strategic play, but this isn't a result of them. This is a result of massive subsidies and government export controls.
Either way it's a great win for America.
