Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Sunday that the US conducted a strike Friday on a boat that American intelligence officials believed was involved in illegal drug trafficking in the Caribbean.

Hegseth wrote in a post on X that the vessel was affiliated with a Colombian terrorist organization and had “substantial amounts of narcotics” on board. He said the three men on the boat were all killed and no US forces were harmed.

This is the seventh known strike in a series of recent attacks by the US military on vessels that the Trump administration says are involved in drug trafficking. It comes days after another strike on an alleged drug boat that CNN reported appeared to be the first time an attack did not kill everyone on board. President Donald Trump said Saturday the survivors of that strike were released to their home countries of Ecuador and Colombia.

“These cartels are the Al Qaeda of the Western Hemisphere, using violence, murder and terrorism to impose their will, threaten our national security and poison our people,” Hegseth wrote Sunday. “The United States military will treat these organizations like the terrorists they are—they will be hunted, and killed, just like Al Qaeda.”

Why is CNN not referring to Hegseth as War Department Secretary?

We should probably wait until they hit U.S. waters and intercept them, but whatever.

But why? The ships aren’t legitimately flagged vessels and they are in international waters. These drug ships are no different from pirate vessels. It’s been bedrock American foreign policy since the founding to intercept pirates and to interdict contraband.

Its simply virtue signaling, finding low-hanging fruit to excite the masses.

I’m a little nervous Venezuela will actually pack a boat full of refugees and kids and leak that it is running drugs to film it and then go all out playing the victim somehow

How has that strategy worked in the past?

That's probably coming. I just hope a cartel doesn't blow up a grocery store here to retaliate.

We have a Navy because of the Barbary Pirates.

They will get marines and special forces swarming their compounds in the jungles if that happened

Those boats are homemade speed boats by the cartels they don’t travel all the way to the U.S. waters.

They deliver the drugs to Caribbean island nations where it’s easy to pay off local officials, then the drugs are loaded onto private vessels, shipping containers, and planes that come to the U.S. At that point you cannot tell which vessels are drug runners and vastly increases the chance of striking an innocent civilian vessel.

The reason we can hit these boats off the South American coast is because they’re homemade by the cartels and it’s obvious what they are.

A commie reporter asked Trump this week why he doesn't do that and he said because that's what we have been doing for 30 years and it doesn't work
