US kicks off controversial financial rescue plan for Argentina

Source is BBC, and their liberal bias shows.

The US has purchased Argentine pesos, taking the next step in a controversial effort to calm a currency crisis hitting the South American country and its president, Trump ally Javier Milei.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the purchase on social media, while saying the US had finalised terms of a planned $20bn (£15bn) financial rescue for the country.
"The US Treasury is prepared, immediately, to take whatever exceptional measures are warranted," he said.
The announcement helped boost the peso and Argentine debt on financial markets but renewed debate in the US, where the decision to extend financial support to Argentina at a time of spending cuts at home has drawn scrutiny.
"Instead of using our dollars to buy Argentine pesos, Donald Trump should help Americans afford health care," Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren wrote on social media in response to the announcement, referring to a key issue driving a stand-off over the government shutdown in the US.
Pocahontas will pocahonta and not fess up to the fact that those 'Americans' are NOT from the United States of America.

Good !
Monroe Doctrine policy.
Help a fellow capitalist get on his feet while stopping the advance of communist China.
You young post boomers are so short sighted and blissfully ignorant of the real world and history.
Not the OP

You do realize Argentina took a sizable share of our soybean market with China?

China replaced us. I don’t blame them. It was a sound business decision and it shows that we are in fact replaceable. Some of us have warned about that being the case and here we are. Have you seen what they’re doing with rare earths and port fees for US flagged ships?

China says it has tightened rules on exports of rare earth metals and related technologies. China's Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday that export applications for overseas military users will not be approved in principle. It also said it will curb exports of rare earths used in advanced semiconductor manufacturing and its facilities, and rare earths for artificial intelligence research with potential military applications. The ministry said exports of technologies related to rare earths mining, smelting and processing will not be permitted without the Chinese government's approval.

Authorities in China are slapping tit-for-tat port fees on US ships. Washington announced a similar measure against Chinese vessels earlier this year. China's transport ministry made the announcement on Friday. The special port fees apply to ships owned or operated by US enterprises, organizations and individuals, starting on Tuesday. The US government's measure applies to Chinese-flagged or built ships, starting the same day. Officials say the move is based on Section 301 of the Trade Act, which applies when trading partners are deemed to have engaged in unfair practices. The Chinese ministry accused Washington of seriously violating basic international trade principles.

You do realize we are financially rescuing Argentina. It is literally the tithe of this thread.
Do you really thing that Trump does not have strings attached to that agreement?
Do you NOT think it might be better to let another capitalist western country stand on their own feet instead of choking the life out of them and falling to communism?
You must be 12 years old
You certainly don’t have the experience or wisdom of a boomer

Actually could be beneficial because of this.
China already has their claws in South America.

What strings because Argentina is selling their soybeans to China while our farmers go bankrupt. In case you have not noticed, farm bankruptcies are already higher now than last year - and that was as of July of this years.
But I sure our farmers understand, and are willing to sacrifice for, checks notes, financially rescuing Argentina.
Only a child would think like you.

In case you haven’t noticed Trump just passed a farm aid package included in the CR
So keep your overalls on help is on the way

Awesome…just like Trumps first term. Bailouts seem to be a feature, not a bug.

I’m confused do you want help or not?

The strings attached are now we will have to use more of our tax payer money to bail out our farmers because we had to bail out Argentina with our tax payer money because hedge funds related to Scott Bessent were underwater.
There is nothing good about any of it.

Me personally? No, I am not a farmer. What I do want is for our farmers to be successful and not have to go bankrupt while we subsidize a foreign country that is taking out market share.
What I do want is for our country to not have to bailout farmers.
Look, i support what Milei has done in Argentina, but not at the expense of our farmers

I understand and agree.
But if you think we don’t need more friends in this global war for the soul of the world you are short sighted.
Milei is the bomb. We must help him.
That is the correct type of foreign aid .
We need to support Trump not question every single decision he makes.
It is not productive.
Have an up vote for your support of Milei

So, actually fighting communism instead of embracing it. Good

Reading this thread with the context of trumpers screeching about Ukraine for 3 years is a doozy

Wait Warren is concerned about US citizens???? Since when?!?

Don’t need to. Most of the shipping goes in the other direction, and there aren’t a lot of US flagged ships anyway.

We need more allies, less leftists. Why not help out a country that need stability?

So that is how you are playing it? At best this is a wash and at worst a stupid use of 20 billion given the Argentine propensity for default and reversion to Peronist governance in the wake. Plus we lose at home. Soybean farmers get the shift because of our chaotic tariff policy where by you the taxpayer have to bail them out this year and maybe next as Xi inks deals with the Argentines and Brazil.
