Is yacht rock the most universally loved genre?

I can't think of an instance where people won't groove out to it.
Put on "steal away" and people are just happy

I told someone recently that a Yacht Rock show would be perfect for a Super Bowl halftime.

I have been on a Yacht Rock kick for the past couple of months. Takes me back to childhood in the 70’s. Serious nostalgia.

My wife almost exclusively listens to yacht rock. I can only take so much Hall & Oates.

If you want to watch a great podcast, see Rogan’s interview with Lionel Richie from last week.

"Yacht Rock" for is like Calgon for the mind and spirit -- it takes you away and lifts you into a dreamy, breezy state of relaxation and dopamine. Even if just for that 3 minutes.

Agree. As I was driving home "lovely day" came on. I was so at peace.

If you've ever gone grocery shopping, the correct answer would be Phil Collins.

The Bridge is one of my top listens.

Beloved by incels maybe. It's shite music

When I first heard that term I presumed it was an insult, like "tractor rap" or "hick hop"

I think the better term would be Thrift Store rock.i always hear it in places with no money for a good music service so they just play the cheapest crap they can afford.

Hearing "Peg" makes me unhappy.

Some of the preferred YR artists hate the term and I'm not a fan of the Christopher Cross types, but as mellow MOR music goes I can get behind it in the Sunday thread.
This SCTV skit still amuses me since Michael McDonald was everywhere at the height of YR era.

I don’t know when the “Yacht Rock” moniker came along, but I’ve always called it 70’s Soft Rock, though it did cross into the early 80’s.
I really don’t understand calling this shite music.

As I said. I can't believe anyone would want to listen to something called "Yacht Rock". What's next, "Hedge Fund Funk"?

Gerry Rafferty is actually one of the more bearable examples. The nadir was Little River Band & C. Cross. I never ever expected a Cross revival, but that proves people can be nostalgic about anything.
As I've posted before, "Yacht Rock" was for people who wanted to party like a rock & roller, drug out like a rock & roller, but not actually listen to rock & roll.

There’s a Yacht Rock documentary on Netflix that explains it all. It was a web series on very early YouTube that gave it that moniker as a joke because they always envisioned some rich guy on a yacht chilling out to it.
It’s a cool documentary, whether you like the music or not.
There’s a bunch of yacht rock bands that tour. The best is Yacht Rock Revue., but there are other good ones.
Check them out if you can. It’s a good time
