you can ask AI yourself; you don't need my results.

i had a leak on my whirlpool washing machine so i ordered a $10 pump, $5 bag of dog ears and $25 vacuum break (mine was scuzzy) and in well under an hour and only having to remove 4 screws and 1 bolt total; had completely serviced my machine, wiped it down and now its ready to go another 10 years.

y'all need to getcha one before the supply starts to dwindle...these things are so easy to service and maintain its like someone gave you a cheat code.

eta thus spake napoleon 10+ years ago and lo did thy faithful TD baw listen

I scooped an old KitchenAid direct drive off the side of the road a while back...I didn't even need a washer but that thing works fine still. It just needs a switch for the fill water level, will only fill if set on Medium. It's a beast and I believe it's made by Whirlpool

Mine is a 2004, still going strong. The 6-puck commercial clutch is an easy upgrade.

Whirlpool also made a bunch of other washers during that time and most of the parts are completely interchangeable.

Maytag, Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, Kenmore and even cheap Roper

Go ahead and get some spare parts now, I picked up extra sets of OEM seals, clutch parts, pump, motor coupler, and water inlet assembly and solenoids a while back. Getting much harder to find certain original parts now at any price. I did a nearly complete rebuild on mine last year, right down to the transmission. Replaced every seal and common wear part, including the pump, for less than $200. The transmission only needs common gear oil, I used some 75W-140 I use for my truck.

Without a doubt. I tell people to always fix these.

I had a guy a while back who put $700 in parts in one.
Which i tried to talk him out of but he wanted new motor, tub, transmission, drive, springs, agitator and bearings.
I would never suggest that but i would easily put more into one of these then buy the new junk.

One thing though is the older timers are better than the newer dd timers but with ebay you can buy used ones to save$$
The biggest issue I'm seeing now that causes these to be trashed is the basket rusts out and cost $275 for a new one. The transmisiions at $195 are a high repair cost too but can be worth doing.

Oh there is no shortage of FSP/whirlpool dd parts and the Jason brand coupler is better than oem.
Agitator dogs fail often and are good to have in hand.
The couplers fail too. But again if you have a parts store you can get parts.

Whirlpool is good about parts its Frigidare and GE that randomly stop making parts.

Mid 90's Maytags are the best also.

Still rocking mine in 2025, purchased in 1995, and the only maintenance so far has been 2 V-belts.

I'll keep it running as long as parts are available.

My wife and I bought a returned Maytag washer/dryer set in 1992. Paid $750 for the set. A couple of years ago, we had a repair done for something minor, and the guy told me they could not get transmissions for the washer anymore, so if that ever gave us an issue, they probably would not be able to fix it. We ran with it for a while, but I'm out of town about half the year, so my wife was nervous about it breaking down. We got a new Speed Queen set about a year ago. But that Maytag set lasted over 30 years with just a few repairs (probably less than $1000 total in 30 years)

Sometimes when techs just want a service fee and feel the work is too hard they will say. "That part is no longer available" but it's often not true. Usually it's either the machine is too hard to work on or is in a bad spot.
Maytag and whirlpool trans are still availible. The ones from the 80s even.

I don't know the guys reason for saying that. I've even had to use that before sometimes the job just isn't worth doing. It's easier to tell the customer you cant get the part then it is to say you don't want to do it.

Depends on the part, I looked all over for a new lid gasket for my Whirlpool UC2 (LSQ8000LQ2). Wound up using a piece of gray self-stick 1/4" window/door seal and it's been working fine for the last few months

I can't say I've ever changed a lid gasket. I do know glass top washer lids are almost impossible to get though.

popped the plastic top cover off my tank and the underside was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. The crud was so bad I could peel it off like a sweater.

Came right off though with scotchpad and Dawn and when I put it back together it was sparkly.

Eta lesson learned if you pick one of these up take the time to pull it apart and clean it. Doesn't take long and you have no idea how it was treated before you got it

I knew a guy who’s side hustle was picking up discarded washers and dryers and repairing them.
