Publix – which has 882 stores in Florida according to its website – began allowing the practice in recent weeks, according to local reports.
"As of Sept. 25, 2025, Florida law allows the open carry of firearms," a spokesperson for Publix told FOX Business, adding that the company "follows all federal, state and local laws." Open carry became permitted after a Florida appeals court ruled that the state's ban of open carry was unconstitutional.
Private businesses like grocery stores, and private property owners, remain entitled to bar weapons. Additionally, certain locations such as courthouses, schools and government facilities are classified as prohibited places for carrying open or concealed firearms.

There was a sign on the door yesterday in Sarasota
when we went in. Letting shoppers know of the law and that they would honor it in their stores.

I'm pro gun AF, but I don't think we need open carry in supermarkets. It's just not that common, and if you do you'll stick out like a sore thumb.

I've not heard too many tussles or action happening in Publix. It's not very eventful. IMO CC is more appropriate in a store or a place of business.

So you want to ban open carry in supermarkets?

Wow. How moronic for someone who is pro-gun to claim they are against open carry, even concealed carry, in a place of business where financial transactions occur?
Unless a person is adjudicated as crazy, violent or in jail/prison, any person has the right to protect themselves with a gun anywhere at any time.

I think we need it everywhere.

I mean I don't think there should be any restriction on capacity, type of weapons, regulation of what a pistol is, short barrell crap and anything affiliated with ATF. ATF should be shut down.
I believe in CC everywhere, it's just I don't want goobers walking around with 357 stuck in his asscrack. It's going to make people unconfortable and frankly could be a safety issue if someone decides to jack it.

Im super pro gun but I am not a fan of open carry. Thats your right as an American. I prefer concealed carry.
A lot of these open carry people are a "look at me" type person. I would much rather be armed and the "bad guys" not know it. To each his own though

I’m not opposed to open carry, but it would be weird to see ina grocery. Not that many people are going to do it anyway. Most people will still conceal carry like I do.

I don’t personally want to see people walking around with rifles either.

Because you can equally protect yourself while CC, nit. You don't need to be brandishing it and giving a chance for some nut to grab it.
