Proof the LSP video and diagram is in error.

In their response to the controversy, the LSP issued a video with clear cues about what happened and a voice narrative that misleads. This goes hand-in-hand with the official diagram of the incident that does not accurately reflect what is in their own video (found HERE).
(Full disclosure: I believe that Lacy was likely guilty of reckless driving, but not of vehicular manslaughter. I believe that the actions of the woman who hit Mr. Hill were much more responsible for his death. I have explained my reasons in other threads. This post will only address inconsistencies in the LSP materials available. All diagrams are mine, based on the data in the video and Google Maps.)
For starters, here is the Google Maps location of the collision, Go Bears Chevron and Rapids Wash ‘N Roll car wash. For clarity, I have added labels for entrances (A, B, C, & D) and islands (1, 2, & 3). Based on the next image, I have placed the location of the collision at the south edge of Entrance D.
In this screen capture (at 2:23 of the video), we see the moment of the collision and Kyren Lacy’s car. There is no confusion here: Lacy’s car is right at the end of Island 1 in front of Go Bear’s Chevron. Additionally, the accident is partially obscured by the sign for Rapids Wash ‘N Roll, which is in Island 3, which means that the collision is somewhere on the south end of Entrance D. The white SUV is passing Island 2.
In this next capture, I have stopped the video from the front of Go Bear’s at the point where Lacy’s car is located in the same place as the capture above showing the moment of the collision (1:55). Here, we see clearly that Lacy is back in the southbound lane, still passing Island 1, and the white truck behind him is in front of Entrance A. Note that the clock from the surveillance camera shows 12:03:53.
In this next image, I have indicated with boxes where the cars are at the moment of collision: the white SUV is passing Island 2, Lacy has not yet reached Entrance B, and the white truck (depicted in yellow for clarity) is in the middle of Entrance A.
The next image is the official diagram of the incident, followed by my interpretation of how that diagram would translate to the location. Please note the following:
- Island 2 and Entrance C are not in the diagram.
- The diagram shows Lacy still in the oncoming lane over half-way past Island 1 while still passing the truck.
- The diagram shows Lacy as not returning to the right lane until Island 3.
As shown above, this is not accurate based on the video capture. Each of these mistakes allows the diagram to place Lacy about 120 feet closer to the collision than he really was. But, it gets worse.
This capture is at the point in the video where LSP notes the sound of the collision (1:59). From this, the clear implication is that Lacy is closer to the collision than he was. This sound reaches the camera at Go Bear’s over a second after the collision (12:03:55 vs 12:03:53 on the surveillance video clock). The LSP’s highlighting of the sound makes people think this is the actual time of the collision, but the cars are already starting to slow down because of the collision. Placing this video earlier in the video also misleads people into thinking this is the most important piece of data they provide.
Conclusion: The LSP version of the story is riddled with errors of fact and interpretation that any competent attorney would have been able to exploit in front of a jury. (BTW, I am not an attorney, competent or otherwise.) While I cannot prove that the LSP was intentionally lying, this video does not help their case as much as they want us to think it does.

why did the funyon women have to avoid the gold truck if he pulled off the side of the road? she could have stayed in her lane and not hit anyone.

She was following too closely and at a rate of speed higher than the trucks.
The DA report had her traveling 49.6 mph and following 0.5s behind the Gold Truck.

You need to take some meds or something. You’ve repeated the same exact thing no less than 20 times in various threads. Doesn’t make you right, sweetheart.

And any prosecutor could destroy your theory of this being error. It may sound like a large distance when looking at it. But for a car traveling 30-50 mph it’s still only 1.5-3 second difference. You get a car flying at you at that short of a distance and see how you react.

In general, I am quite supportive of our police. But, I am skeptical.
As I said in another post, I thought Matt Ory wasn't totally convincing in his presentation. He wasn't as prepared as he should be for an interview like that.
However, the diagram being that wrong kind of set me off. (And, I have often been accused of being overanalytical.)
Cheers

This is a very novel concept to many on this board.

DINGDINGDING WE HAVE A WINNER. Thank you for stating this.
Literally thousands of people are not grasping this concept. It’s comparative negligence, or shared fault. Just because A is true (KL driving recklessly in the wrong lane and too fast which made the gold driver panic), doesn’t mean b Isn’t true (Funyuns is an idiot and went left of center)

The LSP charge KL with vehicular homicide. They didn't convict him. That's why you go to court.

I’m not defending the woman, she is probably a terrible driver too. But sadly Kyren was clearly speeding and probably cuased the chain of events. His poor decision lead to the result of another driver making a mistake that otherwise more than likely wouldn’t have happened.

That sounds easy to find. No need to rehash it here.

I agree with this. I think the evidence I presented shows the holes in their conclusion, which would likely mean he would be acquitted in court. That's my whole point.
On the other hand, suicide is never "rational." It's an irrational act that cannot be stopped by reasoning with the victim. That's one of the things it's always sad.

This is a fair point. I just happen to think that the woman bears the preponderance of the blame.
