Watched Poltergeist last night.

Long story short, staying up nights with a newborn and needed a decent old school, scaryish flick. Chose Poltergeist on Max and gave it a thorough viewing. My past attempts all resulted in bits and pieces but never fully finished.
Decent flick. It’s really cool seeing old school southern California represented in film before it lost its mind. Looked like a helluva place to be middle class and kicking it in the burbs.
The special effects have not really held up, but I liked some of the cosmetic skin rot they did with the makeup. Lots of the mystery around this film was due to two of the daughters in the movie dying irl close to filming.
Product placement EVERYWHERE. I used to not notice but now I see it in almost all 80s music. Half the movie looked like a Star Wars commercial.
Not a top tier Spielberg film, but he makes it work. I respect the cinematography.

Scared the shite out of me when I was a kid. We had that damn thing on Betamax. 
Watched it for the first time in 35+ years about a year ago. Wasn't scary anymore but I think it held up pretty decently and I enjoyed it for the nostalgia.

Real human skeletons were used for a scene towards the end of the movie and the cast didn’t know that until after filming

Tobe Hooper directed it but it’s definitely more of a Spielberg movie than a Hooper movie for sure.

He wanted to direct but was doing ET at the same time and couldn’t do both. But it’s told he was over Hooper’s shoulder a lot.

His influence was all over that movie. You could feel it in certain scenes, including some of the skeletal horror parts. Also using the “idea” of fear to his advantage, similar to Jaws and T-Rex, setting up tension building.

Dee Wallace is pretty fiya in ET. Watching it now with my five year old, it stands out how hot she is.
