The Allies were so worried about the Axis powers getting it that for most of the war the only place it could be used was by the Navy over open waters out of fears of a dud shell falling into enemy territory and they get their hands on an intact fuse.

Fun fact : it wasn't until the battle of the bulge they used it over land in Europe because of desperate they were. Shocked the hell out of the Germans when we started dropping airbursts on their asses.

It's actually one of the reasons the Japanese go to kamikaze because they can't get through our AA anymore. Plus their pilots sucked too
