Looking for restaurant recommendation in Old San Juan with great food, courtyard setting and maybe music?

I think it only fits one of your requests (great food), but I strongly recommend Marmalade to anyone who asks. It’s been a couple of years but it is truly outstanding.

Verde mesa is really good. Cna't remember if there is a patio or sidewalk. Nice view off a ridge over the harbor. It's been a while so no telling how things go now.

Raices was recommended to me by a coworker who lived in SJ the first time I went. It’s outstanding.

Is PR safe if you stay in certain tourist areas? If so, does anyone have a city or area that would be best to stage a week out of?

lots of people stay in isla verde or carolina. also if you are staying for a week its def worth checking out the two small islands vieques and culebra. vieques has some nice beaches and the bioluminescence bay that is one of the best in the world. if youc atch it on a good night it is amazing. culebra has some beautiful beaches as well. they can be reached for cheap by ferry or a little more expensive by small airplane.

Wife and I loved La Taberna Lupulo on Calle San Sebastian
Popped in randomly after walking half a day at the fort so maybe we were just hungry but we murdered everything they put in front of us.
Nothing world changing but food and staff was great.

Cafe El Punto was really good for lunch last time I was there. Has a neat setting and had live music for lunch when I was there. It’s right across from Barrachina which is home of the Pina Colada.
