For example, was drew Brees better in 2020 (.750 winning) or 2012-16 (.494 winning)?

So broken down drew in 2020 was better than prime drew?

ETA... personally I think drew was better in 2012-6, but the cast was far superior late in his career. Guess I could be wrong and drew got better and that's the difference

Drew Brees won half of those games. Drew Brees led numerous game winning drives those year, only to be let down by the defense inside of a minute to go. Drew Brees single handedly carried most of those teams for most of those seasons.

Rattler is 0-10 and hasnt done shite. Let it go man.

Wins/losses is only part of the equation. When you havent won a single game, it plays a much larger role in the grand scheme. Late Drew still played plenty good enough. In fact as his YPA decreased, his completion percentage increased. When Drews YPA was nearing Rattlers pitiful YPA. He could still consistently drive down the field and put points on the board. Rattler hasnt scored more than 21.

So you're telling me that the defense has as much effect on winning as a great qb? Glad we agree that w/l record for qb isn't very telling

Yes and no. Drew kept us in position to win most games. I'd love to know how many games we should have won because he did what he needed to do to put us in the lead.

You're still missing the bigger picture.

No, you are. Football is and always has been a team sport. It takes more than a great qb to win games in the nfl.

I think it is dumb if that is the basis for your argument and the main focal point against a QB. However, when people are bringing up Rattler's lack of wins; it always appears to be he sucks, his stats are not good and some are inflated because of X, oh by the way he still has not won a game. IMO, that does become a legitimate reflection on him.

Yeah ok man. I agree its a team sport. But the team runs through the QB 95% of the time. That QB has to put you in position to win. He has to score points. Saints dont have that right now

At what point have the Saints been in position to win with Rattler at the helm? You make this post and say you think Rattler sucks and this post isn't about him, but why else would you post it? Sure hes kept a couple games close, but never in position to win. Saints have been at least scores down going into the 4th in all games this year, minus last week. Sure the "defense sucks", but the Saints have yet to be in a position to win. As a matter of fact, the Saints have only had the lead for FOUR minutes this entire season. Teams win with bad defense all the time when the QB is actually worth a shite

In a vacuum, yes. But as a Mississippi State fan, you should know as well as anyone. Sometimes the team is bad, but the QB is also bad. That's what we have with Spencer Rattler. I don't hate him. I think he actually might belong on an NFL roster. But, it's okay to admit that he's not an NFL level starting QB. Even if you were being extremely kind, he's at best, the 29th best starting QB in the league (and that is being kind).

In the NFL, you need a top 15 QB to amount to anything and oftentimes, you need a top 6-8 QB to truly contend, unless the rest of your roster is tremendously strong (IE: Jalen Hurts and the Eagles).

I've hated using w/l as the base of judging QBs for as long as I remember. I reject saying jimmy g (.695) and Jim McMahon (.697) are better than guys like elway (.641) and Brees (.601). It seems it's always this qb beat that qb every game now instead of this team beat that team.

You gotta strong point.

Who would have thought Indiana Jones, would have done so much. After leaving the Giants. That team in Indy should be 4-0.

It isn`t his fault his retarded team mate decided to showboat and fumble out of the endzone on a game winning touchdown. Then have another play where he holds on a touchdown run.

You really Can`t judge a QB based Soley on the record.

It’s definitely stupid, if that is the sole base of your argument.

If Rattler was putting the team on his back, and the rest of the team was failing him miserably……that’s one thing. But that’s not what he is happening. While he is not making HUGE mistakes that lose games…..he’s not doing ANYTHING that could possibly win you a game.

He can’t (or won’t) push the ball down the field, there are open receivers downfield CONSTANTLY while he’s still in the pocket and he either doesn’t see them…….or he misses them like he did with Olave and Cooks in the endzone.

The only reason that his QB rating and completion percentage is above water……is that he checks EVERYTHING down.

You add all of this up, and you have a QB that has decent arm talent, but he’s severely limited by
1) struggling to read coverage downfield leading to checkdowns (which leads to safties playing closer to the LOS)
2) Scrambles too much, which limits explosive plays in the offense (there is definitely a time for scrambling)
3) has a nasty habit of fumbling in the pocket during pressure/sacks.

Look, Spencer obviously plays his arse off….which we should ALL appreciate, but it should be pretty obvious to anyone with a brain that he is not a franchise QB. He is a decent backup (which is valuable).

But it’s time to let Shough have his shot to see if you have a franchise QB on the roster (probably not), so he has PLENTY of snaps to evaluate before the offseason.

It really is. You can have an all world QB that the rest of the roster is broken down should be in street clothes, and there’s only so much they can do. But you can have a bad QB and if the rest of the roster is absolute dogs, he can get to or win the Super Bowl. It’s why Superbowl is a dumb metric for HOF for players in general.

That being said, it’s one data point in a multitude of data points that should be factored.

Drew Brees averaged well over 300 yds/game in that time frame. Stupid post.

It is the dumbest way to measure a QB in football. Too many factors go into winning a game.
