First you make a roux

A Florida man has been arrested after killing two of his pet peacocks and eating them.

Craig Vogt, 61, of Hudson, Florida, was arrested on animal cruelty charges after allegedly killing two of his pet peacocks, which he then cooked and ate.

Vogt reportedly told investigators he killed his pet peacocks after he got angry with his neighbor for feeding them.

I would have thought you could do that if they’re your peacocks. People do it with chickens all the time.

I thought Florida was land of the free. What a waste of time and tax payer money.

This is a very strange situation. I'm not defending his actions but just thinking about the law in general. What if he had a pet turkey? Would he still be charged with animal cruelty? Other than looks, why are peacocks legally different than chickens and turkeys, and geese? It's not an endangered animal and they are not usually considered pets like parrots, greys, and macaws. Is it because they are pretty?

Liking and eating peafowl in Florida is legal as long as it’s yours and humanely killed.

This probably gets dropped if they can’t prove he didn’t humanely kill them
