In Southeast Louisiana, New Orleans, Jefferson Parish, and St. Tammany Parish officials are reporting 911 outages.

According to the Orleans Parish Communications District, a 911 fiber line was cut, causing the outage.

In New Orleans, residents are asked to call 504-513-6594 for emergencies only.

Anyone with a non-emergency is asked to hold off calling until this issue is resolved.

Residents in Jefferson Parish are asked to call 504-227-1400.

Slidell residents needing to call about an emergency are asked to call 985-646-4201 or 985-646-4219.

Mandeville, Bush, Folsom, and Covington residents are asked to call 985-276-1300.

Madisonville residents can call 985-276-1501.

These numbers should also only be used for emergencies.

St. Bernard Parish officials are asking residents to call the following numbers in case of an emergency: 504-271-2501 504-278-7664 504- 579-4888 504-784-3087

It’s affecting landlines in Louisiana and Mississippi. I’ve been told that a major fiber optic cable was cut somewhere down New Orleans way. Land line phones at my work are kaput (Covington).

It's more than just 911. Lot of landlines are down too. Supposedly another fiber cut in North Louisiana is the cause, but that is generally what AT&T says whenever they make a significant network change and it blows up because they don't ever bother to back up prior configs apparently.

baffled how the entire system can be taken down by one fiber line being cut if that’s the case.

So a single fiber line controls the entire state 911 system with no backup option?

Yeah that doesn’t sound right at all to be able to take down this much infrastructure.

Welcome to the world of ATT. It’s all analog 911 trunk lines. Internet 911 systems like Livingston are up. Most are still analog however.

This article has alternate emergency numbers to call if you’re in St Tammany:

It rarely is an actual fiber cut. See up here they are telling people its a cut somewhere in Caddo Parish. Other people are being told down south that it is in the NOLA area.

Just from previous experience with AT&T, any time they claim a fiber cut, that is PR cover for that they made a large network change and didn't take the proper procedures to be able to roll back changes in case it blows up in the face. They have been doing this for years now.

Why is it Texas A&M Aggies never call 911?

Because they can't find the #11 on their phone...

It wasn’t an ordinary fiber line. It was a transmission line that got cut as I understand it.

Ill admit I have no idea how the 911 system works.

Always assumed it went from the local switch directly to the 911 center. Had no idea it had to travel to Texas or North Louisiana to make a connection.
