Ok, grass looks like crap. Turning brown and when you walk on it you can actually hear it crunching. Besides watering what can I do to help lawn? Also how much watering do you guys recommend?

People are full of shite about just needing to water once a week with most lawns that get full sun in the summer. In South Louisiana

I water 3 times a week, 0.33” per watering.

In addition to running calculations based on sprinkler head data, I bought a set of irrigation measuring cups to determine how long each zone needed to run.

I don’t have a lot of water flow (5/8” meter), so my zones with rotors run approximately 1 hour and the zones with sprays run around 35-45 minutes.

Why is it turning brown? Are you watering at all. I water twice a week. 30 minutes for pop ups and 45 for rotors. If you are watering and it is still brown you might want to check for chinch bugs if you have St Aug.

This should answer your questions on watering your lawn

Irrigating Louisiana Lawns & Turf

TLDR: 1 to 1.5 inch of water weekly in summer-early fall in the absence of rain.

Exactly, once or twice a year is usually sufficient.

I find that lawns in heavy sand coastal areas certainly need more rain than what is described as the best practice online.

I haven’t watered much this summer as we’ve have good rain, actually turned my sprinklers off. But I have been watering once or twice per week the past few weeks for 1 hour since it’s been so dry. I did have mushrooms pop up so I probably over watered a tad, but no big deal.

My ground in bavkyard is hard as a rock. When I walk on lawn you can hear how crispy grass is.
