interesting, must have yanked it last night?

Said he wished him well, and that he looked at each player individually, and that players come on their own accord, not based on who's in class and who's not in class.

Also said Rocky counts towards this class.

So Benton was essentially dumped because he visited AU after we had waited on him for three years, correct?

They're both good, but we got the one we really wanted. In reality, Benton has 2 chances before this to make the team, couldn't, and cost us 2 schollies in the process.

And it's not like Bastrop High is a school for the gifted and talented; if Benton was struggling there he had zero shot of handling a full courseload at a school with an average ACT of 26 for its incoming freshmen class and committing ~40-hours/week to SEC football.

No offense intended to any Rams out there; glad to see Randle's coming...

Benton- 2 years with a scholly- still waiting to qualify- could bolt for NFL after 1st season with LSU (not likely, but possible)

Randle- Ready to go, fully qualified, AT LEAST 3 years at LSU

If they compare talent wise, I take Randle over Benton too. But form all accounts, Randle is better and will be here longer.

Les is stupid like a fox (or however it goes)

Letting Benton go could have been a numbers management decision as well. If Miles was informed by Montgomery that he was committing to LSU, Miles may have been worried about scholarship limitations (assuming Bell's decision was unknown to Miles).

Whatever the reason, the risk versus reward for offering Benton was pretty great if Randle was the cost for Benton signing.

I haven't seen anything in Randle's 'highlight' video to say that he is a can't miss prospect - I'm not an expert, but I've been right more times than not when I look at a prospect on tape (he looks a little slow to me). I hope he turns out to be as good as the recruiting guys have him ranked because he is the only receiver LSU signed this year and he will be looked upon to contribute a lot either this year or next.

Last time I checked, this kid graduated from high school in 2007. How many chances do you get to be a freshman in college? Miles did the honorable thing, let Auburn have him.

Thanks for the info.

ETA:
Miles was put in a hard spot and had to make a choice on which WR to take. I'm not saying it's a no-brainer, but Benton has been trying to qualify for two years. If he would have kept his grades in order he would be here and be a Jr. this year and RR would be a freshman. RR has his things in order and is ready to go. Benton may or may not. I think it was a tough descision to make, but the right descision to reward the player who has done things the right way. IMO
