Defensive end is the one position that can sustain losing a good player to injury. Hell I even thought Carpenter looked good when he finally got his chances.

Shoulder subluxation. Additional tests to gauge ligament damage and whether surgery for repair is needed or if he can play with a brace on.

Sounded like surgery. Had same injury and it's super common you get ligament damage (slap tear / labrum) when a dislocation happens.

How long would he be out if he gets surgery?

He did not say he will need surgery. Said he may need surgery and that has yet to be determined.

How about Shanklin getting 2 sacks? Both no quit hussle plays too.

I know I know, garbage time vs FCS but you still love to see it. Future is bright.

Do you think he can be back this year?

Labrum surgery would be season ending. It has to be something else because you can play through a torn labrum. It’s painful and the shoulder will continue to sublux but it won’t cause more damage.

Source: Me. I played through a torn labrum and got surgery at the end of the season.

Kelly sounded more like if it requires surgery it's up to Reliford to decide if he wants to play through it and postpone surgery to after the season or just get the surgery now and start recovery.

It’s gonna suck. I had the same injury and the recovery after surgery is 2-3 months, and that’s on the light side. It’s going to continue to pop out until he has it done. I used to rollover in my sleep at night and it would pop out and pop back in.

Like the other guys said, if he gets surgery, he won’t return this year. It could be a pain tolerance thing for him though - if he wants to have a dull, nagging pain all year, he could try to play through it. Kelly’s response kind of insinuated that they will let Reliford make the call. It’s probably In his best interest to go ahead and get it repaired now and start rehab bc the rehab process is a bitch.

At his position, there’s just so much tension put on his shoulders that he might not be very effective. As a sophomore with his money year next season, I could see electing surgery for a full go come September 2026. Then again, this is the best defense LSU has had since 2011 so he could still put down good tape with one arm. SEC play just now ramping up though that risk of further injury could be a fear.

This is why LSU spent $$ for a two deep on defense. Losing him sucks, but there are some other dudes that can step in unlike previous seasons.
